Default NFL.com: Minnesota Vikings excuse Everson Griffen after mother's death

DEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen has been excused from the team indefinitely following the sudden death of his mother.

Griffen missed practice Thursday, one day after police arrived at the team's headquarters to deliver the news to him, Vikings coach Leslie Frazier said. No details of Griffen's mother's death were immediately available. The Associated Press left a message with Chanhassen police seeking comment.

Jesus. I hadn't even heard that she had passed.

Thoughts and prayers with Griffen, his family, and his loved ones.

I never want an advantage due to circumstances like these, but hopefully this will make RGIII's return a little safer.

Damn, losing your mom. I just can't imagine.

Puts this game in perspective. Never lose sight of what's important.

Losing your Mom is a rough experience, I at least knew it was coming. I cant imagine that it would be any easier as a surprise, especially if she were young as I suspect this lady was.

Prayers for his family. God bless them please

Devastating news. My thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family. Take time away from football and spend this delicate time with your family.

That sucks. My prayers go out to him and his family. I cant imagine suddenly losing my mother.
Most fans wish their team had the first pick in the draft each year. I would be happy with the 32nd.

Thoughts and prayers to him and his family. Beneficial to us for the game, but never want to see this sort of thing happen to anyone.

As someone who has lost his mother my heart truely grieves for him. It was the worst feeling I have ever experienced. We also knew it was coming from Parkinson's, so I cant even begin to understand how he is feeling after recieving the news as a shock. My thoughts, prayers, and sympathy go out to him and his family.
