This is GMGM's MO. I've always questioned it as well.

this team could turn it around but we all know that this team isnt winning a stanley cup. They wasted their chance. Our best luck to win a championship is with the nats and redskins

This team still has the talent to make the playoffs. Once in the playoffs its anybodys game especially if the goalie gets hot. I'm not giving up on these guys until they are mathmatically eliminated because this roster can make a deep run.

The posts in this thread are already ridiculous. We have a new coach that had one week to install a system with no preseason games. Beyond the obvious time needed for any coach and team to mesh, there are four winless teams in the Eastern Conference: Caps, Hurricanes, Rangers and Flyers. Anyone think that all four of those teams will miss the playoffs?

I understand this but I’m not sure I agree with it.. I think the frustrations people are having aren’t necessarily with the scheme, which I am definitely willing to be patient with, but more so with the apparent lack of effort defensively- particularly on the PK. We’re getting out-hustled constantly throughout the game and it’s leading to the other team getting easy scoring chances. I’m not throwing in the towel by any means but it’s the same crap we’ve seen the past couple years. That’s why people are frustrated.

My issue is effort. Winnipeg really wanted that game. Hendricks is the only one who showed any life. More than a few times Cap players let a Jet player just skate around them and take punks including one of the goals. That's not system. That's effort. Right now we're playing like the Craps not the Caps.

Why do we get a pass and excuses for a slow start when the rest of the league has figured out how to win without the benefit of the preaseason?

This team's window of winning a cup is gone. They play like garbage. The owner is garbage, GM is garbage, the coaches are garbage and so are the players. They don't play with any urgency. They play flat. They play like the don't care. They get outworked, outhustled and outplayed. They make the same stupid mistakes we've been seeing for 5 years. Like another poster said on another page. Nothing has changed. Same old, same old. I turned it off when Peg made it 4-1. I got better things to do then to support the Wizards Part 2. Jesus effin Christ I just wish one of my teams would bring me championship. Just one. I've been so loyal to all my teams and I get nothing in return. Not one, not one godamn thing to brag about. Oh and Crosby is better than Ovechkin even with a concussion.

And what in the last 7 choking years makes you think we'll make a run in the playoffs? Sure, other teams can get hot and get to a Stanley Cup. We just choke in the 1st or 2nd round. I'll believe it will happen when I actually see it. Meanwhile, in a shortened season if we don't get our act together soon, we'll be one of the 14 teams on the outside looking in with a 13 million dollar waste of space.

Agreed. Like I said above, outworked and outhustled.

And agreed. Quite frankly I see ZERO effort so far. It's like they don't even care.

    And Hersh,

Some of us aren't your average fair weather fans, johnny come latelys that just want to come to message board and *****. Some of us have been supporting this team since 1981 through thick and thin. Some of us would like to see one godamn SC before we die. And coundn't give a **** what the Flyers, Canes or Rangers do. I want the Caps to win or at least not look like hot garbage.

It's kind of sad that when Ovi skates into the attacking zone in his charging way I merely get excited when he doesn't whiff on the shot, lose the puck, or fall on his butt while opposing players counter on us.

There use to be a time where Ovi charging into the attacking zone always felt like a goal was coming.

I'm so down on him right now, I don't even expect goals anymore. Really, I just don't expect him to score anymore. He's just so disappointing anymore.

This team is going to be like this until McPhee is fired.

    What else do you need?

-The teams he builds aren't built for playoff success
-His coaching hires are shots in the dark
-He's built his reputation on the Ovechkin pick
-He drafted Kuznetsov knowing that he didn't want to play for the Caps
-He forces coaches to try and fix Schultz because he wasted a first round pick on him

It's embarrassing and this dude has to go. I've been saying this for a couple of years now. I said last year, if I was Leonsis, and McPhee couldn't sign Kuznetsov by the end of the season he'd be gone. Well... he just (last spring) re-upped with his KHL team for three years and gave McPhee the middle finger in the press.

PJ half of what you said was sort of ridiculous given that it's two games onto the season.

Caps are probably the softest team in the league. They lack toughness throughout the lineup.

That being said they're 0-2, and it's not the end of the world. There are a couple of disturbing trends that we've seen so far, but there is time (not a lot) to get things turned around. They go 0-3 after Thursday, maaaaybe it would be time to get a sweat and start to panic a little. Let's see how they respond tomorrow night.

That means half of what I said was right. Man, it's one thing to lose, it's another to look totally inept. We have looked like the worst team in the league through 2 games. Every year we start slow, some of us rant and rave, others tell us we're being ridiculous, but at the end of the season, here we are wondering how the hell we got knocked out of the 2nd round, yet again, with all the talent on the roster. The more I look at the roster, the more I see a team not built to work together. Too many odd pieces thrown in. So, until they prove me wrong, same old same old. I'm just tired of the excuses, tired of garbage play and tired of losing. When they lose, I don't even want to watch the west coast hockey games and I've been looking forward to this for months now.

I'm sorry. This team has put me in such a terrible mood since the start of the season. I expected better hockey (fool on me). I just needed to rant. I'm just so tired of seeing this team underacheive. I'm not sure I can take another choke job. I try not to be a downer, but this team sucks the fan out of you.
