We never get as much as is initially forecast. Source doesn't even matter. Here's how to interpret DC weather reports:

INITIAL FORECAST / ACTUAL

HISTORIC SNOWFALL- BUY GROCERIES AND STAY OFF ROADS AT ALL COSTS / 6 inches of snow that melts down to 2.5 by the next day.

8-10 INCHES / 3 inches of snow that turns into sleet

6-8 INCHES / 2 inches of wet snow that turns into sleet, then rain

4-6 INCHES / 1 inch of snow that turns into rain

1-3 inches / 30 minutes of snowfall that immediately melts on ground contact.

Any forecast below 1-3" means we'll get some light rain.

Man I got a VCU game to get to tonight. Tip off at 9pm. Woo hoo I get to test my car's weather traction. LETS GO lol

I think the snow amounts will depending on how much temps drop off here plus if it hangs on us at all. It's suppose to be gone by 3am. If it stays longer I expect 6inches. I heard that is the max amount right now.

Still it's going to fall eventually (right?), and with the precip shield further north than they thought earlier, who knows what'll happen

There's a little (very little) snow kind of piled on the bottom of my car windows this morning. Extremely dry. But not enough to measure.

If its of any interest we have snow here in the UK today. I have a couple of inches here in the NW where I live and they have about 6 inches in Wales and parts of the SW.

It's all over the news here - to listen to the reports you would think the world was ending! IT'S WINTER - BUY A COAT AND GET ON WITH YOUR LIVES .....

Is there any hope of any snow any time soon in the Mid-Atlantic/Northeast?? Come on, Long Island needs a snowstorm. Okay, I want one. I'm sure most of Long Island doesn't.
