Default I just learned about the Redskins Rule. The election and the Redskins go hand and hand apparently

Are you aware of the Redskins Rule?

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...tial-election/

When the Redskins win their game before the election, the incumbent party wins the presidential vote. If the Redskins lose, the non-incumbent wins.
The only exception was in 2004, when Washington fell to Green Bay, but George W. Bush still went on to win the election over John Kerry.
Here’s a rundown of the Redskins Rule games since 1940:
    • 1940 – Redskins 37, Steelers 10 – Roosevelt (D) defeats Willkie.
    • 1944 – Redskins 14, Rams 10 – Roosevelt defeats Dewey.
    • 1948 – Redskins 59, Boston Yanks 21 – Truman (D) defeats Dewey.
    • 1952 – Steelers 24, Redskins 23 – Eisenhower (R) defeats Stevenson.
    • 1956 – Redskins 20, Browns 9 – Eisenhower defeats Stevenson.
    • 1960 – Browns 31, Redskins 10 – Kennedy (D) defeats Nixon.
    • 1964 – Redskins 27, Bears 20 – Johnson (D) defeats Goldwater.
    • 1968 – Giants 13, Redskins 10 – Nixon (R) defeats Humphrey.
    • 1972 – Redskins 24, Cowboys 20 – Nixon defeats McGovern.
    • 1976 – Cowboys 20, Redskins 7 – Carter (D) defeats Ford.
    • 1980 – Vikings 39, Redskins 14 – Reagan (R) defeats Carter.
    • 1984 – Redskins 27, Falcons 14 – Reagan defeats Mondale.
    • 1988 – Redskins 27, Saints 24 – Bush defeats Dukakis.
    • 1992 – Giants 24, Redskins 7 – Clinton (D) defeats Bush.
    • 1996 – Redskins 31, Colts 16 – Clinton defeats Dole.
    • 2000 – Titans 27, Redskins 21 – Bush (R) defeats Gore.
    • 2004 – Packers 28, Redskins 13 – Bush defeats Kerry, ending the streak.
    • 2008 – Steelers 23, Redskins 6 – Obama (D) defeats McCain, restoring the Redskins Rule.
    • 2012 – Redskins vs. Panthers – Obama vs. Romney – TBD

The one year it was wrong was the year there was a big controversy as well as was not really a true winner.

I remember that Green Bay game, too.

Phantom illegal shift call on James Thrash got a Portis TD called back that would have swung the game in our favor.

Refs killed the mojo in 2004.

Thats something. As much as it pains me to say it, I wouldn't hate it if the Redskins lost today if that rule is still going.

If that rule holds any truth. I hope the Redskins lose big today.

Not sure if this is in the right forum, even if it is Redskins related.

But regardless, for the sake of the rest of the World, and to save Americans becoming a laughing stock; GO REDSKINS!

    Hail.

About the streak being "broken" in that '04 game...

    #6. The Redskins Rule

    ...
As for the one exception, it was in 2004, when the Green Bay Packers beat the Redskins but George W. Bush held on to the presidency. The fact that this was the one exception actually makes it weirder, because as some of you vividly remember, Bush was president but had actually lost the popular vote in 2000 (winning only due to the Supreme Court craziness over Florida's recount). As the guy credited with discovering the theory, Steve Hirdt, points out, if you make the rule refer not to the party in power, but to the party that won the popular vote in the previous election, it suddenly has a perfect 18-for-18 record predating World War II.

    ...
"The only purpose for which power can be rightfully exercised over any member of a civilized community, against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good is not sufficient warrant." --John Stuart Mill

"The rule of law is to be preferred to the rule of man. We do not permit a man to rule but the law because a man rules in his own interest, and becomes a tyrant but the function of a rule is to be the guardian of the justice and, if justice then of equality." --Aristotle

Rules are meant to be broken, just ask the NFL's Roger "as I see fit" Goodell.

I thought the "Redskins Rule" was synonymous with the "Sept 4" rule: NFL rules are carved in stone Sept 4 when re-interpretation screws the Redskins. ;-]

There should be ONE exception to the "no politics" rule.

Every four years we should be allowed to talk politics for THIS game only in the Stadium.

They were even talking about it on the Pre-Game shows.
