I dont mean it to sound harsh, but I believe if you skip your consitutional right to vote you cant complain about the result.

Because something is a right, that doesn't mean you have to do it. People are entitled to free speech and the right to express their opinions as well. If someone doesn't want to vote because they don't like the choices, that's voicing an opinion.

I vote because too many people have fought for me to vote. I just feel like I should honor them by voting. Even though I think the whole system is messed up. But I love people who stand up for the right things....

When I do vote, I usually take this approach:

To me, it's been, who is the best of the worst.

But that is about it. If something happens and I can't vote, I am not going to lose any sleep over it.

The tone in this thread is strangely similar to teen angst about how everything sucks and nobody understands me.

SI, ya almost a week off for trolling the thread. But you're such a long-timer with a clean record and there was some humor in the incite.

Per the old "don't vote, don't complain" it's just another cliched viewpoint. I think the cliche is half understandable in some ways (I have "felt" it at times, but it doesn't stick) and often it is fully stupid as many express it.

The very people who come off as "waving their little flag" and putting the non-voter down as a group seem to automatically (stupidly/hypocritically enough) want them to "shut up", which sort of goes against one of our biggest Americanisms--"free speech."

Not to mention it ignores human nature. Most folks (including them) ***** about some things some times that they don't lift a finger to doing anything about when they could.

I wish everyone who could vote, would. But if you don't that's your right, and so is still bitching about the whole damn system. The reality is by speaking your thoughts, you're still participating whether you vote or not (but I hope everyone would vote). And you can't accurately gauge the worthiness of a person's thoughts on our political system by whether or not they voted. I know a lot of voters that have nothing to brag about in that department, though I'm fine with giving them "credit for participation."

I am also, all of a sudden, remembering when our lauded founding fathers thought voting was solely the province of the while male landowner. A random association, but always worth mentioning this time of season.

I'm not planning on voting today, I have to vote in Manhattan and the trains still aren't running near me, plus NY is going to vote the way I'd vote anyway. If I lived in a swing state, I'd vote without a doubt.

Nothing's going to change if we don't exercise our voice through voting.

I've never been affiliated with either party and have voted Dem, Rep, and third party.

Not voting is not showing up.

It's not stating an opinion.

It's not being heard when you say you don't like the choices you have.

If more people who don't like the choices we have actually voted against those choices, we'd be better off.

At least that's how I see it.

I wouldn't miss voting if not for this. I would've voted early had I known. I live in WV so my vote for president wouldn't matter but I don't like to miss the local stuff. Especially would love to cast a vote against our incumbent sheriff who is under federal indictment for beating up a bank robber and lying to the Feds about it.

I quit voting after the second time that this government showed that my vote is meaningless. The first time was when I lived in California and they had the voting to keep certain "rights" away from illegals, like getting a driver's license, free medical, etc. It was hugely voted for but the minority that voted against the new law took it to the California Supreme Court, who then decided that the wishes of the people was unconstitutional. The second time was of course when the populace voted for Al Gore yet because Bush won the Electoral the people's votes meant nothing.

So yeah, I will never vote again... Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. I do learn.

i've been out of the country for 3 out of the last 4 weeks, and was away from home for 3 out of the five days that i was in the country. not a real excuse, but i didn't think to get my crap together in time to vote early. i'd be lying if i were to say i felt guilty about it. voting is important, but sometimes **** just happens.

Though I notice you have a computer or some form of internet access and time to waste online (as I do)... so all could not be so bad in the Oligarchy.
No one has it easy anymore but I think its really awesome that we actually get a say in our gov't. If that is patriotic BS, then I am fine with it.

No. I think of most people. Fat, lazy and overly comfortable being ignorant and unable to think outside of the box and to dig down and actually do the radical things we need to do to change our once great country and I realize that things will just keep swirling down the bowl.

As far as selfish, I try to make the effort and sacrifice to not endorse the major problems, so we don't need saving from our government.

Not liking Romney or Obama or (R) or (D) is a lame excuse not to get out and vote. There ARE other candidates...and dozens of other ballot questions to vote on. Simply casting a vote for someone not one of the "Major two" lets your voice be heard.

No because I'm a resident of Hawaii (military). Pretty sure Hawaii's 4 EC votes mean nothing. Is it even possible for an election to come down to Hawaii and Alaska? If I was still a resident of Virginia or if it was just a popular vote, I would vote though.

A lot of people have fought and died for a lot of peoples rights, yet people will vote for people who deny a right to marry and openly mock women being raped.

We have a right to vote or not vote. Save the guilt trip.
