2012 Voting Machine Altering Votes

My wife and I went to the voting booths this morning before work. There were 4 older ladies running the show and 3 voting booths that are similar to a science fair project in how they fold up. They had an oval VOTE logo on top center and a cartridge slot on the left that the volunteers used to start your ballot.

I initially selected Obama but Romney was highlighted. I assumed it was being picky so I deselected Romney and tried Obama again, this time more carefully, and still got Romney. Being a software developer, I immediately went into troubleshoot mode. I first thought the calibration was off and tried selecting Jill Stein to actually highlight Obama. Nope. Jill Stein was selected just fine. Next I deselected her and started at the top of Romney's name and started tapping very closely together to find the 'active areas'. From the top of Romney's button down to the bottom of the black checkbox beside Obama's name was all active for Romney. From the bottom of that same checkbox to the bottom of the Obama button (basically a small white sliver) is what let me choose Obama. Stein's button was fine. All other buttons worked fine.

I asked the voters on either side of me if they had any problems and they reported they did not. I then called over a volunteer to have a look at it. She him hawed for a bit then calmly said "It's nothing to worry about, everything will be OK." and went back to what she was doing. I then recorded this video.

There is a lot of speculation that the footage is edited. I'm not a video guy, but if it's possible to prove whether a video has been altered or not, I will GLADLY provide the raw footage to anyone who is willing to do so. The jumping frames are a result of the ****ty camera app on my Android phone, nothing more.

Anyway, recording voting machines is illegal. I got into a discussion with this on another forum. Perhaps he should have just asked the judge and gotten it fixed instead of filming it. And it's just me and my old school mentality, but not everything has to be a video

As far as I can remember, the incumbent is always listed at the top of the choices.

and even if i am remembering that wrong, O comes before R, and so does D.. so it would seem that this particular machne has just thrown out all convention, listed the challenger first, and if that isn't part of the criteria, it also ignored alphabetizing th names or even tha parties.

Mine was fine, and the machine i used didn't look like that at all.

Had this discussion in another thread. Just my opinion, but I seriously bet that the order of the candidates on the ballot is fixed by law.

In (whichever state the other thread was talking about), it's supposedly listed according to how many votes that Party got in the last election.

Now that I read the description and see his reasoning, I rescind my concerns

I wouldn't have done it unless it was a last resort, cameras are clearly not allowed there. He checked with other guys next to him, theirs worked fine, the election judge said that it was fine, and it wasn't. What are you gonna do.

Interesting.. thanks.. i'm pretty sure what my experience is will likely be different in other states and precincts.

It happened to me at the polling place, but not for the President.

It was easily corrected. Just de-select the wrong candidate and select the proper one. After the mistake happened, I made all my selections better.

I'm sure by now everyone is aware of the multiple instances of voting machines needing to be "recalibrated" in NC for early voting which were reverting to "Obama" after "Romney" was selected.

The same issue was reported in 9 other states.

This is the first time I've heard of the opposite problem -- picking Obama and the machine selecting Romney. But it makes me feel like maybe the Obama-to-Romney issue *was* actually a bug, which I really hope.

This election is too important for bush league bs from either side.

Am I the only one that watched the video and thought, "When is the machine going to "change" the vote?" I get that the touchscreen was off by a bit, but in the write up the guy explained that he figured out how to vote for Obama. The machine didn't "change" his vote, it failed to register his intended vote. The election officials need to either fix the machine, or close it down until someone can fix it.
