If someone was REALLY trying to commit voter fraud, couldn't they just program the machine to vote for candidate X even thought the screen displays Y? I mean, that way no one would ever know.

probably so many people voting obama that there's too much finger grease on there. happens with my htc titan (wp7 phone) all the time.

Yep, they can use an if/else loop:

if (vote = romney)
romneyVotes = romneyVotes +1;

else if (vote = obama)
obamaVotes = obamaVotes + 1 && romneyVotes +2:

Romney was first on the ballot on my machine, and I might be remembering this wrong, but Obama might not have even been second. Virgil Goode was listed highly. Maybe I have them swapped in my mind, but Obama definitely wasn't listed first.

I took a moment in the booth to get altered myself (voting "yes" on the legalizing pot in WA state) but my machine seemed straight.

I would hate to see what you would do in the booth if gay rights were on the ballot

Nah, then you'd get busted for having more votes than voters. What you should do is make every third Obama vote count for Romney. That way Romney gets a small enough boost to be believable.

To be fair NBC is reporting that the machine in question had to be taken down after it was confirmed this was happening.

I'm sure it's just a broken machine, but still worth mentioning.

A Pennsylvania electronic voting machine has been taken out of service after being captured on video changing a vote for President Obama into one for Mitt Romney, NBC News has confirmed.
The video was first posted on Youtube by user “centralpavoter.” It shows a voter’s finger repeatedly pressing the button for Obama, but a check mark coming up next to Romney’s name.

NBC News confirmed that the machine has been taken off line.

I live in PA and It happened to me at about 7:02 this AM. It's not that big a deal. It's not like most people have never used a touch screen and there's a confirmation screen so you can make sure you're voting for who you want before you submit.

I was asked for ID in Virginia.

In PA you don't have to show an ID unless you're a first time voter but apparently, SOME of the poll watchers are saying that you do.

I guess they're just not up on the rules.........
