Edit: And this just happens to be going on in minority areas......
Yup. Happened to me too. Not surprisingly the people in front of me were not required to show ID. Mind you I voted in this polling place 4 years ago. The exceptions are if you're voting for the first time in the precint or it's your first time voting ever.

    Ridonculous.

If one machine is having issues, then there's no telling how many more could be defective.

How many votes are these machines recording before they're taken down?

Just voted a few hours ago...If I'm remembering right...the last time we had a congressional election at my polling station we had more machines available. The line wasn't too bad and the machines were working fine...there were more stations for paper ballots than in years past...just seemed kind of odd to me.

I like the way my county does it.
    • Paper ballot.
    • Blacken in the oval for your choice.
    • Stick the paper in a machine, which sucks the paper in, and counts it at the same time.
    • I assume that, when the polls close, they plug in a phone jack, press a button, and the machine phones in the count.

The actual paper ballots are retained, so the machine can be audited or recounted. And they OUGHT to be able to announce the county's results like a half hour after they close.

(And we can have like 40 people voting, and only one machine.)

Well, i hope at least there is a volunteer there who will turn the crank on the front of your car to get you going.

I hate seeing this stuff all together. It sounds like there are problems in Cleveland and throughout New Jersey (storm related). God I hope this isn't a disaster.

That being said, FoxNews is still headlining this Black Panther at a polling station. So, one guy who is in the new Black Panthers goes to a polling station and its national news all day?

We have exactly the same, except that there's also an electronic voting machine or two as well. You get a choice. Seeing as (so I've heard) the electronic ones we have don't create a paper artifact in case of recount, I've always gone with the paper ballot.

Honestly, not really. I wouldn't expect a national organization to run with it all day. Maybe blurb it.

Why is there no way to vote online? Wouldn't that save people tons of time rather than going to stand in line for hours? I'm sure having to wait in lines, turns people away and they just don't vote. I mean its only 2012 and we can't use the internet to vote?

Think Stuxtnet for an election event. Boy would there be incentive for a hack there!

That could be a disaster. Look how many websites get hacked daily. Can you imagine if someone hacked the election?
