Hard to believe this story at face value, something smells fishy.

Why?

If you are going to try to "shut up" Petraeus because he has some secret on the President, this is about the least effective way to do it that I could possibly think of.

If Congress really wants to talk to him, I highly doubt that him resigning would keep them from doing that.

All it shows is that Petraeus is, like the rest of us, just human. Maybe I'm wrong, but with a name like Petraeus he'd be more cognizant of Greek tragedies and the effects of hubris.
