    Oooh, goody.

You've taken a thread discussing a part of the VRA that only applies to certain locations, and a comment asking if it should apply nation wide, into a claim that it already does, and are now attempting to support that claim by changing the topic to be about some other section of the law.

Please, feel free to run further off topic.

    huh?

Look slim, its not that serious. You said the VRA only applies to those southern states. I just said it applies to all. You never said, "this section of the VRA only applies to southern states." I dont know why you didnt, so I corrected that part of your post.

It wasnt meant to cause any conflict or even move the topic. In fact, I said that I feel the VRA should still apply because we have incidences of state governments attempting to suppress the vote just this year. I am not moving the topic to anywhere else.

In general, an imperfect solution to a problem that must be solved is better than no solution.

Not sure why the law cannot cover the whole country... Logistic or legal reasons?

Observing that one of the reasons why this law keeps getting renewed, is because people keep trying to disenfranchise minorities.

It ain't just your grandfather's actions, that keeps people pointing out that the law is needed.

In just the states under it? ...if your goal is to prevent disenfranchising voters,it would seem application nationwide would be best
    to do otherwise seems bigoted

Look in these states racism is still alive and well. It is not the same when voting districts are changed in Alabama that it is in Ohio. It is not the same at all and I think it's silly to pretend it is. Do you realize a sizable portion of the electorate in these states truly believe that Obama wasn't born in America and that he's a muslim? It's not because he's a democrat. It's because he is black. These questions NEVER would have been brought up if he wasn't black. The Republican establishment was trying to set off racist dog whistles like they have this entire campaign. They are trying to paint him as some un-American "other", which never would have happened to any white candidate. White people in these states are moving contrary to the rest of the country, in other words while President Obama has made inroads with white voters all across the country, the Deep South states have done just the opposite. It's not because Obama has some magic effect on only southern white people, it's because he is black. http://www.nola.com/news/index.ssf/2...ith_white.html This article explains how more whites voted for Obama in nearly every state except for in the Deep South.
The GOP has been built on a Southern Strategy for decades, but now they have to be less overt about it. Racism has not died in these states and they still need to be under these laws. I don't think we need to pretend everything is better because it's not.

Glad to see conservatives working on improving their appeal with minority voters.

    Oh . . . . Sorry. Wrong thread.

    Nope, you're perfectly correct.

The GOP isn't just trying to disenfranchise minorities in the South, any more.

(Which was why I asked that question.)

You assume that those pushing voter ID are doing so because they are sincerely trying to stop voter fraud rather than ctual disenfranchisement.
