Mike Shanahan.. Extension or move on, what would you do ?

At the time we extended Gregg Williams in 05 or so, the word was that there was a similar clause in his contract. It's doubtful that Snyder has any credibility with a clause like that anymore.

Except he's a new man. At least that's the image he's portraying. And with Gibbs, Snyder's idol, firmly in the Shanahan's corner... It works.

Snyder didn't just move in another direction from Williams - he strung Williams along for weeks on end and basically made a fool out of Williams.

Turns out that it might have been a good move, given his involvement in Bounty Gate, no? Maybe Snyder knew something we didn't

The bigger question is does Mike Shanahan want to continue coaching after his contract is up? He will be 62 at the end of the 2014 season. I know a lot of coaches like to coach into their late 60's but there is no guarantee that he will want to. Also if you sign Mike you are going to lose Kyle to a head coaching job somewhere else. It is inevitable at this point.

Hello everyone, I was actually looking to start a thread but I'm a bit reluctant. I'm glad this topic was being discussed so I will just put my .02 here. I realize that there have been highs n lows but with all of the injuries and suspensions along with our salary cap being snipped I really see a great job by Coach Shanahan.

And then there's the QB & RB position being handled excellently with rookies. Thoughts?

I think RGIII & Morris make a huge difference for whether a coach in his early 60's wants to continue coaching. If the franchise has a core of winners and talent that can compete for the post-season annually, by plugging in new free agents/draft picks into any holes that are lost during the offseason, I think that would encourage a coach to stick around into their aging years. It is definitely a different job than trying to rebuild a franchise from the ground up the way Shanahan had to do two seasons ago.

If u do not extend him now and he has another big year next year, it is really going to cost ya big money to extend him next year. Shanny will be a lot cheaper this year then next. As for all the kyle talk, Mike Shanny decides on coaching decisions and extensions. So if Kyle is extended it will be Mike's call like he did with Haz earlier this year i believe. Shanny is not going anywhere imo. He will be the Skins coach for the next 5-7 years (unless he wins another SB then he might retire). He is in the early stages of building a monster he is not going to walk away from it mid way. He is driven to much.

Extension talk might be more for Kyle than mike. IMO once mike wins us the title. He steps down maybe moves to the front office and Kyle becomes hc. Either way if we have a shanny as head coach for next 12 to 15 years with rg3 safe today dynasty days are back
