I've seen people talk about how quickly the Lions turned around, while conveniently ignoring how bad Matthew Stafford has regressed, how little production Calvin Johnson is getting and how Suh has been a non-factor. They had glaring holes on their team this year; their d-line can't stop the run, their secondary can't cover. They play undisciplined football, Stafford can't seem to function if he can't get Megatron the ball. They're 4-5, buried in the division, and have to deal with the Packers, Texans, Falcons and Bears, and even a sneaky team like the Colts.
And how many guys on their team got arrested this past offseason? Is that the team we want?
Some quick turn around...
"Washington strolled to the NFC championship, outscoring their two playoff opponents by a combined total of 48 points. Their domination was more than impressive, it was historic. The 1991 Redskins boasted the largest average margin of victory among all Super Bowl champions."

Yup... what gets me is if Mike came into the exact same situation that Lions staff came into and had all those top picks, imagine where he'd have them right now. Think about it. Mike has thus far turned our 1st rounders into Trent, Kerrigan and RG3. Granted, RG3 needed 3 of them as well as a 2nd, but the Lions had top 3 picks every time and we never did. Imagine if the Lions couldn't get Stafford, where would they be right now?
The Lions situation is the closest one that resembled our rebuild and, yet, I look at their team and look at ours and see a much better future for us. Imagine that. And they had a head start by a year, had the number one pick of the draft to start with, top 3 picks pretty much every year after that, AND didn't have to deal with contracts like Haynesworth's and capgate consequentially.

Former head coach Norv Turner showed tonight that he does in fact have the ability to get fired up. Turner is another one who usually handles the media well, but even he has his moments apparently.

Dan Snyder loves Mike Shanahan. He will get his full five years. I mean Snyder tried to trade for him once.

From reading the tea leaves, it seems that we are at a crossroads. There are many, like myself, who would like to see Shanny get another year. There are many that would like to serve Shanny his pink slip personally. I can see both sides of the debate, each one having its own merit. We have RG3, the injuries, etc. on one hand. On the other hand, we have the penalties, the awful defense, and the continued losing.
I would really like Shanny to work out. It would give us some stability and continuity that we've been sorely lacking as an organization. However, if he got fired in the next few weeks (if we continue to crash and burn), I'm not so much of a homer as to not understand why. This is a results based business, with the results being "W"'s. I was sincerely hoping that we could snag a few of those along the "rebuilding" way, because it would've kept the "fire Mike" talk from bubbling up. Unfortunately, that's not what has transpired, and here we are.
One thing I think is certain at this point is that the match has been lit. As mentioned in this thread, Glazer doesn't just drop these little nuggets without there being an angle. The angle is simple. If Shanny does not improve the play of this years team before the end of the season, he will be fired. The snowball is in motion, and sometimes these things take on the feeling of a "perfect storm". For instance, look at who we got coming to Fedex next week. The reeling Eagles, who still have plenty of speed to burn on O to abuse our weak secondary. If we don't win that game, Shanny's in serious trouble.
I will go out on a limb and say that I think Kyle/Raheem could be the biggest losses in this whole fiasco. People tend to forget how young they both are. I think they're both great football minds with great futures ahead of them. I would not be shocked to see either or both of them go on to win a ring or two down the line, whether they are in the B&G or not.
