Yes, but that was 3 or 4 weeks ago, when we were still hitting on all cylinders on offense. In our last game we lost to a team that was tied for the worst record in the NFL. A team that then turned around and got pummeled on their home field the following week. Point being, at this point there are no games on our schedule that are games we should win. Not even the Browns. Just hope this team comes out after the bye and gets back to playing the way they did the first month and a half of the season. And call me a pessimist, but I don't see much chance at all of us making the playoffs.

My prediction is actually 5-11, but here is how I look at it.

IF we beat Philly would be stoked about Thanksgiving?

    My answer: Yes

IF we beat Dallas, would you be jazzed about MNF?

    My answer: Absolutely?

So, we are two wins away from playing a divisional Monday Night game in December that would be very relevant. I'd take that and be happy as heck with it.

    What he said.

As bad as we are, we were one minute and change from getting a W in NY, that is how little I think of the Giants right now and they have a hell of a schedule to play also. The Eagles are done, we are the only ones that are bad enough to keep them on life support, but honestly I think we have a very legit shot to win both against them. The boys? Are you kidding me? yea they have a soft schedule but two of those games are against us. When is the last time we went 2-0 in a season against them? Well now is the time, especially since their team sucks are bad as ours.

Honestly other than the Ravens every one of our games is very winnable if our receivers actually catch the ball and our D actually stops the big play. I know I know big ifs but we can dream can't we? What is there left to do other than think how great RGIII is going to be next year?

Especially the Raven's game. I do not want to hear them talking smack.

They trash us enough. The last thing I want is for them to have a win over the Skins. Then there fans will go crazy with the insults.

Ok, I'll play along. First, have to suspend disbelief that the defense is so historically awful that they will cause the entire team to fall in on itself. Let's assume for a minute that what happened during the bye week was Shanahan taking the defensive coaches to the proverbial woodshed, they got the message, they are committed and just talented enough to slow teams down. That's the going in assumption.

Now, let's look at the only real scenario that has to take place for the 'Skins to get in:

    'Skins Schedule:
    - Eagles (W)
    - @Cowboys (W)
    - Giants (W)
    - Ravens (L)
    - Browns (W)
    - @Eagles (W)
    - Dallas (W)

    Final Result: 9-7. Division 5-1

    'Giants Schedule:
    - Green Bay (L)
    - @ Washington (L)
    - Saints (W)
    - @ Atlanta (L)
    - @ Baltimore (L)
    - Philly (W)

    Final Result 8-8. Division 3-3

    Dallas Schedule
    - Browns (W)
    - 'Skins (L)
    - Eagles (W)
    - @Bengals (L)
    - Steelers (L)
    - Saints (L)
    - @ Skins (L)

    Final 6-10, Division 3-3

    Eagles
    - @'Skins (L)
    - Panthers (W)
    - @Dallas (L)
    - @Bucs (W)
    - Bengals (L)
    - Skins (L)
    - @Giants (L

Final: 5-11, Division , who cares.

    There are many assumptions here:
    1. That Philly is absolutely and completely done, Foles starts, looks like a rookie, and they basically fold up the franchise. If that's not the case, then they have about as much shot of making the playoffs as anybody.
    2. The 'Skins find a magic elixir that teaches our secondary how to cover.
    3. The Giants continue to slump. They also could very well come out of their bye week and run the table. It's very possible, they've done that before.
    4. The 'Skins can actually put together a winning streak. That's 2 games in a row. They haven't done that since games 1&2 of 2011. So, not exactly standard for this team.

If these things hold true, and for the record, I don't see this happening, but this is a thread of "if's", the 'Skins could actually make the playoffs at 8-8. And almost certainly at 9-7. In order for them to get to 8-8, they would almost certainly have to have a better division record than the Giants, who could also finish 8-8 if they don't pull out of their nose dive.

In this scenario, the 'Skins have to beat Dallas twice. If they do that, I don't see how Dallas gets to 8 wins. They'd have to take 2 of 3 from the Bengals, Steelers and Saints. I don't think that's very likely.

The team with the "easiest" schedule is the 'Skins, because their non-division games are Browns and Ravens, and that's it. The Giants have GB, ATL, BALT and NO. Dallas has Browns, Bengals, Steelers, Saints. And Philly has Panthers, Bucs, Bengals.

It aint gonna happen. But, if it does, it would be really cool.

Nice thing, though, even if they don't win this game, they still could run the table and make it.
There appears to be a light at the end of the tunnel. I just hope it's not a train.

What sucks is, they might just start playing good enough to ALMOST get in the playoffs, but when the game is really needed, it will fall apart. If they get on a roll, starting this sunday, and peel off 3-4 wins in a row, our hopes and expectations will once again be high, then a loss to a lowly team will ruin everything, and the pitchforks will again raise high demanding some coaching staff be fired.

Then the carry-over of how we can build off of the second half of the season, Mike will keep Haslett and things return to normal chaos.

    Have I covered everything? lol

OR, they could just start kicking ass and not bothering to take names, and players take it upon themselves to prove they deserve to be on the team, and NO ONE would want to face us, just like it was in the '5 in a row or we don't go' year...

No matter how you slice it... we're not going. We can't beat a 6-1 team at home, which I'm starting to feel bad for season ticket holders. How many weeks now have they left FedEx disappointed? This is getting ridiculous. Teams don't have to really practice any type of game plan against us except for a passing game... wheather it be short or long. Simple and successful... every week. Lord knows there is no pass rush... so QB's will have plenty of time to find their targets. Without Davis as RGIII's go to guy in bad situations, our offense could continue to be stagnant (as in the Carolina game) because of our receivers having a hard time separating... or just letting the ball slip thru their hands. Not to mention the always present at bad times penalty killers (bad coaching).

I ALWAYS love watching the Redskins play... win or lose... but this season is OVA.

And the word of the day is "REDEMPTION".

When I heard this today I thought to myself, "how cool would it be if this idea actually gained legs, and the team, the dc media, the fans, all got behind this idea and just rolled with it for the next few weeks"? Thinking back to KDawgs thread earlier today discussing team chemistry, if there was ever a more solid "team-building" opportunity available you couldn't ask for it to get any better than this unless it was literally doled out on a silver plater. The team can take the last few weeks of downtrodden, media blow-up, fan freak out, and put it all in the proverbial stew pot and add the last ingredient, "redemption" to the mix. Everyone begins by talking about how we rolled past the half way mark in shambles, team falling apart, coaches suck, players are horrible, starting roster has been decimated by injuries, yet despite all of the these seemingly insurmountable hurdles, the team comes together over the course of 17 days in late november/early december, and by the time the 2012 season rolls into the 4th quarter, the Washington Redskins have taken the NFC East by storm and sit atop the division with 4 games remaining!

Its right there, on a silver platter, all the team (players & coaches),the fans, the city, the talking heads, have to do, is grab a hold of it and believe in it. I don't think this is what Mike had in mind when he made his "evaluation" post-game press conference speech, but in my opinion this is the most perfect opportunity for me to see exactly what my beloved Washington Redskins are made of.

And damn it I want to believe!

Forgive my artistic license, I want to make the most awesome story of "REDSKINS PALOFFS IS NAO" I can think of on short notice.

Redskins win 42-40, on a thrilling last minute drive by Robert Griffin III ending in a 4th and 17 TD pass to Leonard Hankerson, capping off an extraordinary 5 touchdown, 420 yard game. However, coach Shanahan is disappointed by yet another terrible defensive performance and is heard shouting in Haslett in the locker room. Haslett, inexplicably publicly defended himself by saying "Well, we won the game, it doesn't matter that we gave up 40"."

Cowboys: "After giving up 28 points in the first half, the Redskins defense makes a stunning turnaround...after a horrible playcall where Dez Bryant is streaking uncovered down the field but drops the ball, defensive captain London Fletcher rips his headset out of his helmet, and starts calling the plays on the field. From that point on, the Cowboys do not record a first down, Fletcher piles up 10 tackles including 4 TFL in the half, and a Ryan Kerrigan defensive touchdown proves to be the difference in a 35-28 win on Thanksgiving".

Giants - The Redskins defense, now coached by Raheem Morris, looks fired up and rejuvenated, with creative blitzes and smart coverages, as the Redskins record their first shutout in years, beating the Giants 24-0.

Ravens: A defensive struggle: after the offensive fireworks of both teams in recent weeks, the Ravens pull out all the stops and Robert Griffin struggles to a pedestrian (for him) 20-30 for 212 yards and 1 TD in a 19-13 win.

Browns: Motivated by a speech by Hall of Fame Joe Gibbs, and the father of slain Redskins safety Sean Taylor, and sitting at 6-7, the Redskins adopt the mantra: "3 in a row or we don't go!". With a 42-20 pasting of the hapless Cleveland Browns, piling up 600 yards of total offense including 322 rushing yards and 4 rushing TDs (3 Morris, 1 Griffin).

Eagles: The Eagles are in full implosion mode at this point, with Andy Reid having been fired the previous week, and Michael Vick benched. Rookie Nick Foles makes a game of it with 2 TDs and 300 yards, but Robert Griffin is better as the Redskins win 31-20.

Dallas: Shades of 2005 and 2007, Washington's last playoff berths, are hanging over this game. Like in 2005, the Redskins had to defeat the Cowboys late to ensure their playoff bid. And once again, they do. Robert Griffin passes for 375 yards, 1 TD, and rushes for 2 more in a 28-20 win over Dallas, who saw their own playoff hopes go up in smoke.

The Redskins face the Chicago Bears, who failed to secure a bye. At this point, the Redskins find out that at some point, emotion and adrenaline and pride cannot overcome Super Bowl winning talent, not yet at least. Robert Griffin III puts together a spectacular 90 yard touchdown drive to get the game to 20-17 with 1 minute to go after being dominated all game, but they fail to get the onside kick and go down.

Robert Griffin finishes with 23 TDs, 6 INTs, 13 rushing TDs, 4210 passing yards, and, in a major upset, finished 4th in the MVP vote. Alfred Morris finishes with 1442 yards and 13 TDs, while Leonard Hankerson, who had struggled with drops the first half of the season, emerged in a big way, pulling in 45 catches and 692 yards over the final 7 games, while Pierre Garcon worked his way back into the rotation, becoming a big play threat, averaging 17.7 yards per reception, albeit on only 20 receptions.
Just wanted to have some fun.

Ill continue to pull for the Skins the rest of the year but I just can't see the Skins having a realistic chance at playing in the post season. I actually think the Cowboys take the division this year and Giants a wild card. The battle is for 3rd between the Skins and Iggles - If they stick with the rookie the rest of the way they will finish last. If they start Vick after he is cleared to play, we will be back in that familiar spot. Going to be another long offseason I think - especially without a #1. Is what it is I guess.

haha if we were to win our next 3 games, at the very worst we would be 1 game behind the giants for the division (if they were to be GB)

Hey fun to think about at least
