Oh, right. Because people are ****ing stupid.
Seriously, how people have yet to figure out there are just as good of deals online I will never know. You don't have to deal with a bunch of jackasses and you can get a full night's sleep. Never done black Friday (or shopping on Thanksgiving...wtf?) and never will. I hate crowds and it's not worth the blood pressure spike.

Blame the Internet... It's the only way these stores can make money now.

Any stores that are open on Thanksgiving get no holiday dollars from me. If their doors open before midnight Friday, they won't see me until after the new year.

I've already got my list ready for Thursday. Wal Mart is going to have their TVs on sale. A 40" that is normally $1999 is going to be on sale for $1989. We are going to eat our turkey in the parking lot so we don't lose our place in line. Gotta get those deals!
The soldiers gave three cheers as they urged their tired horses north across the uneven hills. Some of the mounts, exhausted after a week of almost continual marching, began to lag behind; others, spurred on by their enthusiastic riders, began to edge past the regiment's commander. "Boys, hold your horses," Custer cautioned; "there are plenty of them down there for us all."

Now you are manning up. Don't forget the great deals on foreman grills and juicers.

I think your just trying to drive away customers so you can get the best deal.

Not sure I've ever done the Black Friday thing actually. Certainly, not on purpose... though I do like a deal I dislike crushing crowds.

    The fat drips away harmlessly

And Burgold, not talking about Black Friday, I'm talking about thanksgiving day

Well, no one except cajun chefs have done Black Turkey day yet... so, I talk about that. HOWEVER, I could argue that more people treat consumerism as their religion than their spirtual one these days. Why should these people be denied their church on the day of thanks for abundance!!!

    or :thoughtful:

Don't forget there will only be 4 in stock!

My wife and I got "into it" one year about this whole subject, and I've given up trying to convince her otherwise. She would go to Kmart (back when they were the only ones open on Thanksgiving Day) and I brought up how people making incredibly low wage were having to miss a holiday with families just so people could shop. "Couldn't you wait another 12 hours"? Worst part was she oftentimes wouldn't even buy anything!

I almost can get the whole get up early and go out with family (my wife and her mom love to do it) on Black Friday IF you're doing it as a fun event with people you like being around. But, trying to save a few lousy bucks isn't worth it IMO if you're going out on Thanksgiving, just because it makes that day like any other day and forces people to have to work it. Take a full day off and enjoy it.

Competition brings low prices, but definitely has other costs.

I'd prefer people do this: www.shopsmall.com

Come on Zoony! Don't you know that there are some very important necessities out there that we American people would die without? What would we do without that all important item that we need in our survival kit, the ever important waffle iron? We must get it to protect our family and if we can get it on Thanksgiving than damnit! It is a must at all cost!

I basically have to go over to my mom's and not just help her cook but stay with her all day. Otherwise, she'd be in that apt by herself most of the day because my sister has to work, too. I planned to stay over there anyway, but the fact half my immediate family has to work on this holiday, we couldn't go out of town to see other family in DC because of this crap.

    What kinda holiday is this???
I've been there. Worked Christmas Eve, Christmas and New Year's 2011-2012. It does suck, but unemployment sucks worse. I do agree companies and business owners should be willing to concede some things during the holidays. Some do, but others are only interested in bringing in as much coin as they can. That's capitalism. That's life for a lot of folks in the service industry in America and it's only going to get harder for them too IMO.

Ironic that the day after (or sometimes, day of) giving thanks for what we have in our life, we revert to mob mentality in the pursuit of cheap electronics.

I don’t support these places being open on Holidays, but you’ll find a lot of folks that are out of work say “If they don’t want to work the job, I’ll gladly take it from them and work.” Sign of the times I suppose…

That being said, I think the Saturday after Thanksgiving is “Small Business Saturday” – so for those who like supporting local economy, take heed!
