The Departed is my fave.
The Departed is my fave.
For me its Raging Bull.
Then Taxi Driver and Good Fellas in that order.
Taxi Driver has some lines in it that make me cringe for being cliche and/or ham-handed. The "rain to wash the trash away" lines immediately come to mind. I'm thinking they're not nearly as cool now as they must have been in the 70s.
Goodfellas is timeless. That got my vote.
Departed is good but not super memorable when you get down to it. Not compared to his other work.
I enjoyed Gangs of New York in a weird way. Kind of masochistic there. I also liked the Aviator, unpleasant as it was. Shutter Island was an absolute chore though. Even by Scorsese movie standards.
Hugo was really enjoyable.
Thinking about it, I'm actually not that big a fan of Scorsese compared to most.

It doesn't qualify here, but his Blues documentary was also excellent.

Oh wow its tough one between Goodfellas and the Departed. I could flip flop on which one I like more.

Ok, so as far as quality goes, for me it's Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas easily top 3 in that order. But as far as personal favorite because I can watch it over and over again, I voted for Goodfellas, one of my most watched movies.
Of the remaining films that I've seen, I'd rank them as: Cape Fear, Gangs of New York, Departed, Casino, Shutter Island

and anything else he's done. Those four could be up for debate.
Goodfellas had to be my first choice but the Departed is one of my favorite movies as well. And on top of that, there's still 3-4 more Scorsese movies that I love. The man is a great director.
I voted for Gangs of New York. It is one of my favorite movies and Daniel Day-Lewis as Bill the Butcher is amazing. I like everything about that movie.
Taxi Driver is also great on so many levels. It was hard to pick between the two for me.
Goodfellas, hands down. I've seen it probably 20 times and still love it.
The Last Waltz.
I love love love that movie.
The Departed is one of my absolute favorite movies. You could wake me up at 4am on any given day, tell me we're watching it, and I'd be down.
That being said, I think Goodfellas is his best film. The Departed is my personal favorite to watch, but Goodfellas is the best one he's made IMO.

I'll say it. I really disliked Taxi Driver. It was so boring. Usually a movie like that would be right up my ally, but it just didn't hit me right. I respect it and appreciate it, but just didn't do it for me. I voted Goodfellas. Shutter Island and The Departed aren't anywhere close.
