If you look at this year alone, and don't consider previous seasons...Is RG3 an "elite" qb right now?

RG3 is currently 3rd in QB rating, snuggled in between Rodgers, P. Manning, Tom Brady and Big Ben. And all of those guys around him are considered "elite."

    5th in completion percentage
    2nd in yards per pass
2nd best TD/INT ratio in the NFL, over 4:1, amazing.
tied for fewest turnovers in the NFL among active QBs with Tom Brady

Broke the all-time NFL rookie QB rushing record

look at andrew luck versus rex grossman last year (13 games started) ... similar TD and INT numbers, similar yardage ... although grossman has a higher completion percentage. their stats are remarkably comparable.

maybe we could trade them straight up. i'm sure Indy would like to upgrade to a guy with similar numbers but more experience for their playoff run. and i guess i wouldn't mind having luck as our third stringer. what do you guys think?

Or for the more lazy, Sagarin's ratings through this week show the Colts with the 30th toughest schedule. Skins 8th. Seahawks 3rd. http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/sagarin/nfl12.htm

Add on top of that the fact that RG3's and Wilson's stats dominate Luck in every way imaginable other than sheer volume of throws? If this is a 2 man race, Luck is (or should be) the odd man out.

Nice. A bit OT, but also interesting how the two 11-1 teams are 31st and 32nd in strength of schedule. Makes you wonder if one of them might get shellacked once they are in the playoffs.

Whoa, nice catch on that one. I've had a nagging feeling about Schaub and Matty Ice this season. The lack of playoff provenness doesn't help.

Ryan, yes: his team has choked on all 3 occasions. But Schaub has been leading good offenses for years now only to fail at making the playoffs because of his team's poor D. I remember in 2010 he led a bunch of comebacks only to have the D blow it (we were an exception to that ). The one year his team had a good defense, his team made the playoffs, but Schaub was hurt. His team, and him in particular, are blank slates in my book. They have a good defense again this year, and Schaub remains healthy with 4 games to go. I'm giving Houston the benefit of the doubt for now.

The funny thing to me is, Griffin still has 1/4 of the season to add to his candidacy, he has steadily ramped it up every game, we may still see a LOT more magic before this season closes.

On another note, Griffin now has the second best passer rating in the league.

Posted this in another thread last nite, but I think it bears repeating here:

I'm tired of this Andrew Luck noise. The Colts went 2-14 last year with a bad quarterback....and went 10-6 the year before with Peyton Manning! 2009, 14 wins. 2008, 12 wins. 2007, 13 wins. It's not like they've been bad for...oh, I don't know, a WHOLE DECADE OR LONGER. They just needed a fairly decent quarterback to replace Manning and didn't have it last year. Curtis Painter? People are so quick to forget that the Colts were a pretty damn good team just two years ago and not a whole hell of a lot has changed, other than who is under center.

Luck is a good QB right now... he'll probably be a great one, no doubt about that. But the idea that he's taken a horrible, God awful team, put it on his back and is taking them to the playoffs is absurd. That team would be in the exact same position last year if they had a good backup.

RG3 has taken a team that has had win totals of 5, 6 and 4 over the previous three seasons and negative point differentials of -79, -75, and -70 in those respective seasons and put them in a position to control their own destiny and get into the playoffs. Moreover, he's allowed an offense that'd be lucky to score 20 points a game to score more than 30 on multiple occasions this season.

Anyone who can't see this doesn't deserve to vote for ROY.
RG3 should be looked at as an MVP/ROY candidate.

    First in PFF's QB rating.

He and Aaron Rodgers are the only 2 QBs since 2008 to have a PFF QB rating of over 100.

Robert Griffin III has been named Rookie of the Week for week 13, the third week in a row and sixth time this season.

Wow, even NFL.com's pimping couldn't make voters overlook Luck's turnovers.

    Updated OP.

I'm actually surprised RGIII won the week 13 contest. I thought Russell Wilson was more deserving.
