Redskins Re: Victor Cruz "Skins are not yet contenders"

This is GREAT! The team is well aware of this quote btw, and Hall has already commented on it (see Bubba9497's Redskins news). Hall agreed with his assessment but added, at the very end, "We've got to keep working, keep grinding," Hall said. "We'll see what he says after the game." It is wonderful to have life in December and a team not divided....striving for the same goal. I will sleep little until Monday night, and win or lose, we are relevant again. We will no longer be an afterthought or Cruz would have not commented in the first place. THIS is what makes it fun again. LOVE IT! HTTR

    A few thoughts....

*DHall ran his mouth after the game about Eli's TD pass---and continues to do so--so it's not shocking that Cruz would throw this jab.

*Still, not a smart move (we've already established that DHall isn't very bright either).

*Does Cruz realize that his 9-7 team won the SB last year with the league's worst rushing offense and a suspect offensive line? Didn't the Giants win last year's SB with "missing pieces"? Pretty sure they did.

But yeah, after the way the passing game has really opened up for us, that might spell doom for ya'll should your secondary have to deal with that. And I'd love it.
My gut says they will not stack the box...they are gonna try the bend but not break method...no blitzing..containment... i'm telling ya ..this is going to be a shoot out. 60 points plus

To be fair the quote in the OP is taken out of context.

    The full quote reads:

"They’re still a couple pieces away from actually being a contender, them being in legitimate talks for playoffs and things like that," Cruz said today on a conference call. "They’re still a few pieces away whether it be defensively or wherever they are missing some pieces. But I think they’ve definitely -- they’ve got to be in the conversation. They’ve got a good team, they play good football, they hold the ball for a long time, and they really do some good things. So I definitely put them in that conversation, for sure."

The press asked a Redskins executive about the salary cap penalty and the executive responded, "Ask John Mara." So the press asked Mara and he said, “What they did was in violation of the spirit of the salary cap. "

Oh I see now, even though there was no actual salary cap in 2010 according to the CBA, the "spirit" of the salary cap still existed. Thanks for clearing that up Mara.

Thanks for the clarification. Even before I didn't really see an insult in what Cruz said.

I would love, tho, to hear his comments if Wash beats NY Mon.

I'd say that is the text book definition of "in the mix" like Kwantrell Bishop is in their faces.
Last I checked we beat the Bucs and the Vikes, Seattle is going to be hurt losing their two CB's for four games, and we have Bob Friggin Griffin on our team, I like our chances.

Like I said in a thread some days back, we are witnessing greatness. No other thing to say about it.

    Well maybe one more thing,

    **** MARA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I simply used the title of the article. And clearly, to me, Cruz realized he said something stupid and back tracked after the fact. Not that it really matters. I am just happy that we are relevant again. Win or lose nobody in the NFCE is looking forward to playing our offense for next ten years.

I don't really think it matters if that part was taken out of context or not. Athletes are always looking for that little something extra to get them amped up. Any tiny bit of motivation is welcomed.

Remember the Panthers were all mad because of the whole Homecoming Game thing? They used that as extra motivation.

Personally I think gunning for a playoff spot should be plenty, but you never know how little comments could affect any one individual player. One guy on the defense might take that a little more to heart and put just that little extra into his play to make a difference. A guy might study film a little harder, or a little longer. It could manifest itself in a number of ways.

I say you just kill em with kindness like Coach Gibbs always did.

I agree. RG3 has changed everything, and now the Redskins actually have some respect in the division.

Tuck's quote about seeing Robert in his 'nightmares' was pretty awesome.

I don't really care what he meant. Our players will twist it and use it. Fedex will be straight rockin' on Monday. Is it game day yet?

I hope Hall picks off a pass intended for Cruz and takes it to the house, and then proceeds to do a salsa dance of his own!!!!!! That would be epic........ HTTR

The NFC East could be won by a 9-7 team in 2012, so until a team is eliminated from being able to achieve that record, I'd say they are in the discussion for playoff possibilities.

He is right about not being contenders yet - nothing infammatory about that comment.

Cam is a showboat but it's not much different than Santana spinning the ball after every good play he makes. The worst offender was Laron Landry talking smack and showing off after tackling opposing players AFTER they had picked up a first down...

Yes he did and no excuse to ever let him behind either safety with under 2 minutes left. This defense is better then the 1st time we played NY at their house, and so is our offense and entire team. If I was Cruz, I would be keeping my mouth shut, because if the Redskins can generate a pass rush on Eli, something they couldn't do the 1st time and still should have beat them, the Giants won't only get beat, they will get their ass embarrassed in front of the entire Nation. I would love to not only see that, but see Cruz totally shut down.
