if not for one little breakdown at the end of the last game, your team loses 3 straight to these 'non contenders' (twice with grossman HAHA), and our teams sit at even records.

I'll be honest with you... of course I want the Skins to KILL the Giants on Monday, but if they lose a good competitive battle against them, I will not hang down my head... and the team also should not. Of course if we play them like the Packers did... well... anyways, they should take that loss and put it towards beating (i.e kicking ass) the Ravens and the other remaining games. That would be 9-7... and even if we don't make the playoffs, that would be winning 3 more games than last year. A decent end (that included a rookie QB and RB) to start a better next year.

He is right, our defense is just too awful
Ever since RG3 entered the NFC East, Giants/Redskins has become THE rivalry of the division. The Giants are on top of the mountain. We gotta knock 'em off!!
No, his comments are inflammatory, because it's almost impossible to define "contender" in today's NFL. The Giants won the SB with a bad OL, terrible running game, and scoring fewer points than they allowed. The #1 seed in the NFC will be the Atlanta Falcons, probably the worst 10-1 team in NFL history. Who is a "contender" this year?
Whether he is right or not is irrelevant. Cruz is dumb for giving great bulletin board material. Downplay it as much as you want but it will be used in the pregame speech as motivation just like Giants said that we thought we were betting then them for beating them twice last year before the last game.
OK, we aren't playoff contenders and yet all the teams in front of us or tied with us for the last wild card spot we've beaten except for the Seahawks

I guess I'd like to get to a time where our team isn't so ****ty that things like this 'fire up' our team.
the division is on the line. we're playing to be one game back. if you need someone from the other team saying the same thing your fans have been saying all season to 'get fired up', then you should probably find a different profession, because obviously football isn't for you.
When I first heard this, I have to admit it sounded like a compliment. I am surprised its pissed off so many people.
What would A World Without Lawyers be like?
Because it isn't a compliment. Just let me ask you this:
If your team was currently fighting for a playoff spot, and currently holds tiebreakers over pretty much every team but one, and had a very, very good chance (almost a guarantee) of making the playoffs if they win every game at this point, only to have a player from a rival team essentially saying you aren't worthy of contending for a playoff spot, wouldn't you be a little peeved? There is no compliment there. If you're referring to the "They do some good things, they hold the ball a long time" portion of his quote, then I don't think that is a compliment either. It's more of a half hearted about-face, after realizing that he probably said something that he didn't mean to.
We are every bit the contenders for a playoff spot that all of the other teams are, and even the division isn't out of the equation, depending on what transpires for the rest of the season.
