Default Press Release: REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

    PRESS RELEASE

    For Immediate Release

    December 5, 2012

    REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

    LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. –
The Washington Redskins announced today that they have promoted tackle Tom Compton to their active roster from the team’s practice squad. The team also signed defensive back Korey Lindsey and linebacker Kourtnei Brown to the team’s practice squad.

Compton (6-5, 308) was originally drafted by the Redskins out of South Dakota in the sixth round (193rd overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft.

Lindsey (5-10, 194) was originally drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals out of Southern Illinois in the seventh round (No. 207 overall) of the 2011 NFL Draft. He was waived by the Bengals on Sept. 3, 2011, before being claimed off waivers on Sept. 5 by the Arizona Cardinals.

In 2011, Lindsey was inactive for Weeks 1-2 and 4 with Arizona and did not play in Week 3. He was released from the Cardinals’ active roster on Oct. 5, before re- signed to the team’s practice squad on the same day. He was waived by the Cardinals on May 30, 2012, before being claimed off waivers by Indianapolis Colts a day later.

Lindsey appeared in three preseason games with the Colts in 2012 and totaled six tackles (four solo). He was placed on the Colt’s Reserve/Injured list on Aug. 31, before being waived injured by the team on Sept. 25, 2012. Lindsey signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars’ practice squad on Nov. 14, before being released a day later.

Lindsey, 23, attended Southern Illinois, where he appeared in 50 games with 36 starts and helped lead the team to two FCS postseason berths. He finished his collegiate career with 14 interceptions, which ranks third in school history. Lindsey twice earned All-America honors from the Associated Press and NFL Draft Report.

Lindsey was born on Feb. 3, 1989. He attended Scotlandville Magnet H.S. in Baton Rouge, La., where he earned all-district honors twice and was a two-time All-Metro Baton Rouge first-team choice.

Brown (6-6, 255) originally signed with the San Francisco 49ers as a college free agent on May 4, 2012, before being released on Aug. 27.

Brown, 24, attended Clemson from 2007-11, where he compiled 75 tackles (10 for a loss), three sacks and one interception.

Brown was born on May 17, 1988, and attended Victory Christian Center H.S. in Charlotte, N.C.

im interested to see if this is just a depth move since brown is no longer available to us or if compton has actually shown enough for the coaching staff to think he deserves some real pt.

Right on the heels of LL56's comments on Compton.

I see what you did there DC9 and I like it. It will be interesting to see what Compton does if/when he gets the chance to hit the field.

First thing I thought of when I saw this is a heavy package down near the goal line with 3 tackles... a la the 49ers. Compton was very quick in the pre-season, but didn't necissarily have the ass or the strength to maintain those blocks. Needed some polish on his footwork as well.

I love this move, but you are right... I suspect it's one of two things at this point in the season:

    1) He's ready (which I hope)
    2) someone was sniffing around

This smells like Trent's injury is not getting better and we brought him up as insurance.

Also, did we have to drop a player or is Compton taking Griffin's old spot?

At 6ft5in, 300+ Ibs, this guy should be a beast in the ZBS....fingers crossed it was a move caused by his improvement rather than Trent's injury becoming worse!

    Well...

As Jumbo has encouraged, I went to the thread and read through it... early on, I found this telling quote from LL:

I don't agree with the stat, Advanced stats has not been a very good site. I do think Griff is outperforming the Oline. Last season they allowed pressure on 37.1% & 2012 is similar at 35%. A majority of the pressure comes from LG and RT, rest of the line has been pretty good.
Compton was an animal at his level, he was a project because he didn't play Div 1A (FBS) football... but he had all of the tools. Maybe he's up to speed? I've had high hopes for this cat.

That has been in the works for awhile..Compton received a big raise a few weeks ago after a team tried to grab him off our PS. Compton had no intentions of leaving and we had no intentions of losing him.
Since this thread seems more of a formality, I'll carry my butt over to the other thread for conversation ; )

Great snooping DC, I think there is plenty of room for a potential RT for next year that's for sure. And if he ensures there is someone to back up Trent with his helmet in his hand on game day, all the better.

But you could always stick with STRAIGHT OUT OF COMPTON pics, lol.

    RIP 21

NO Pressure, No Diamonds, KNOW Pressure, Know Diamonds!

Griffin said that he was going to watch the game with his family and that he will never attend a Super Bowl if he needs a ticket to get in.

Shanahan has paid more attention to our offensive line than many give him credit for. I think he's used his resources very well and is every bit as good finding linemen in later rounds as he is running backs. Look at the way our line is performing right now. They are having a lot of success and two of those guys (Lichtensteiger and Polumbus) are later round guys that Shanny picked up. I look at Shanahan's choice of Trent Williams over Okung (I'm aware that wasn't a late pick) and his choices on LeReibus, Gettis and Compton and I'm very pleased. I would not be surprised at all if these guys start to have an impact as starters in the next year or two and turn out to be very good linemen.
