Default What is Kirk Cousins worth?

As ever in the NFL, it seems there are not enough starting calibre QBs to go around for everyone. The Skins draft pick cupboard is pretty bare, and we still have Cap issues because of that "mother@@@@er". Baring any late disaster our picks will be mid-late 2,3,4,5,5,6,7 and i can't see us getting more than one/two FA starters because of cap room without us getting rid of lots. We all know how many holes we have, so would it be worth sacrificing a promising backup QB to give us some more power in the draft? How much would you need for Cousins to make him expendable?

So what then, you go and draft another backup QB in the spring?

Somehow, it's the kinda plan that makes me think of....

A ham sandwich at this point.
If he gets some playing time ( and I hope he doesn't except in clean-up) and shines , his stock will go up. Right now I don't think he's worth any more than we gave for him and hes more valuable to us as a back -up . Maybe Shanny can pull a "Reid " though lol

Hopefully a 2nd round pick to a desperate team. (A guy can dream right?)

Nothing at this point. He's an investment though, we just need to keep seasoning him, let him play a couple of games and see if he'll put up big numbers. If he does, then we an extra 2nd rounder on our hands.

Like any other commodity, he's worth what someone is willing to pay for him (see Matt Flynn).

A previous poster mentioned the prospect of continuing to "season" Collins...but that only begs the question of "What kind of offense do they run with Cousins?"

Methinks it wouldn't be the same thing we are seeing from Robert.

    We have 8 draft picks:

    2,3,4,5,5,6,6,7

    5th from Haynesworth
6th from the 2 6ths for McNabb, the other 6th being Alfred Morris

At this point, Kirk Cousins is worth the most to us. It's only maybe in 2-3 years when people have some more game tape on him.

Hopefully we will be blowing out opponents by then so he can get some regular season work against NFL defenses and then we can use him as trade bait, but I'd definitely take him over Rex at this point just because we know what Rex can/cannot do.

I highly doubt he's worth much of anything for any kind of trade (he hasn't proved anything), but at least we have the peace of mind of a solid, young back-up (potential wise). In all honestly, I don't think we really need to pursue all that much in the off-season except signing a couple starters for the secondary (possibly 2nd round pick in draft). That is clearly our biggest need. Also, draft for depth on the O-Line and other positions of need. The team is starting to mesh very well as of late and I think with another off-season together they will grow into a league wide favorite to make the playoffs and, for the first time in an extremely long time, make a deep push for the Super Bowl. Many people even view them as likely to make the playoffs this season, but I'm still going to take it one game at a time. The Ravens will be tough, the Browns are playing a lot better, and you never know with Dallas. I like our chances, but I'm not going to get my hopes up just yet.

Why trade him? These days it's rare for a QB to make it through every game of the season. If we have a credible backup, keep him.

Clearly your definition of "promising" is way different than mine. I didn't like Cousins in college and he hasn't shown anything yet so his value is zilch. You're lucky to get a 5th rounder for him.

I can see a team desperate enough to give us and 2nd rounder and wouldn't be surprised if a team offered a late 1st for cousins. This QB class is not all that hot and the FA market for QBs will be bare.

I think he's pretty good, and am glad we hav him, but to me the more proficient he is at running plays that Robert Griffin III runs the better he is to us if the unthinkable happens. The less changes for the other players the better and would keep us less predictable. I read the quotes from Kyle and Jim and liked a lot of what they said. Kyle mentioned something along these lines...at the NFL level if the opposing defense knows what you are going to do they can stop it. So what we have going on is driving defenses crazy! Just ask JPP! Hehe!

After flops like Cassell, Flynn, and Kolb, I doubt many will ever deal much for a backup QB again.
