Default CBS: Dennis Dixon plays RG3 role at Ravens practice

    http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/blog/nf...avens-practice

For the past two days at the Baltimore Ravens' practice field in Owings Mills, Md., Dennis Dixon has been Robert Griffin III.

It's been a tough assignment for Redskins', considering the option elements Washington presents aren't seen on a regular basis. Even backup QB Tyrod Taylor, an athletic, shifty player in his own right, had some initial trouble trying to mimic RG3's tendencies. But Taylor's background has always been with a pro-style offense, dating to his days at Virginia Tech.

Then there's Dixon, a former standout at Oregon who was close to winning a Heisman Trophy before tearing his ACL in 2007. Dixon's also started three career NFL games, all with the Pittsburgh Steelers in relief of Ben Roethlisberger.

Having practice-squad eligibility left since he's only appeared in four total games, Baltimore signed him to that unit, which is where he's been most of the season. Dixon's ability to run the read option, the same style of offense he ran at Oregon, has been valuable to Baltimore's defense while preparing for someone as dangerous as RG3.

Dixon's ability to simulate RG3 has impressed defensive coordinator Dean Pees.

Damn that concerns me. This could help them tremendously they might be more prepared than any other team.

This kind of reminds me of how Byron Westbrook would play the Brian Westbrook role whenever we were preparing for the Eagles. I don't think it ever helped us out that much.

Every team has been doing this. I don't think it made a difference.

No dead serious. Repetition is the best way to learn something. If I recall, Dixon has 4.4 speed. And he has run this type of offense before.

Notice how the Giants played us better the second time. We still had success. Just not as much.

but big problem he doesn't know how to make every throw like RG3. Thats where read option kills because he uses it as play action

We used Banks to simulate Vick in preparation for the Eagles before MNF.

    That went well.

They still won't know what RG will be doing with it when the ball is snapped and he will be doing it faster, better and more accurately than their "simulator".

I think the game will be won/lost by how our defense plays.

Dixon was a great player at Oregon and a fantastic athlete, and along with Johnathan Stewart in the backfield, they were primed to compete for a National Championship before he messed his knee up.

    But RGIII he is not.

I think RGIII was better in the second actually. The first game he has a pick and fumbled. The second the defense looked more confused and RGIII looked more comfortable imo.
Also another thing to add...Dixon is garbage. You might as well put Jacoby Jones back there to practice against.

HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! This made my night. I love how pumped their DC is. Gee willikers, guys! He looks exactly like RG3!! This worked out better than I could've hoped!

Reading this story will make watching RG3 torch them on Sunday so much more entertaining.

    Also, who is Albert McClellan?

At what point does doing something like this just waste your defense's time?
