I think the reason to be optimistic is his leg wasn't planted on anything, it was in the air. His leg did bend but since nothing was keeping it in the that position for an extended period to me that closer to a strain than a tear. Just my observations from seeing various leg injuries.

Griffin smiling: "I'm gonna be alright. Nothing's broken." MRI tonight, but he says, "shouldn't be ACL. I know what that feels like."
The soldiers gave three cheers as they urged their tired horses north across the uneven hills. Some of the mounts, exhausted after a week of almost continual marching, began to lag behind; others, spurred on by their enthusiastic riders, began to edge past the regiment's commander. "Boys, hold your horses," Custer cautioned; "there are plenty of them down there for us all."
I think he needs to slide there. That's literally the first time I've said that this year, so I don't think I'm being cliche or overreactive. If he slides he gains like 2 less yards and doesn't get the first down either way. Last week he took a big hit against the Giants but it was a good move because he gained significantly from not sliding. Today he did not. Dude's gotta get down.
