A knee sprain means that you have injured one of the ligaments around the knee joint. Saying you have a "knee sprain" is not a terribly useful diagnosis for two reasons:

First: it does not tell you which ligament is injured. This is important because different ligaments are treated very differently. For example, ACL (anterior cruciate ligament) injuries often need surgical reconstruction. On the other hand MCL (medial collateral ligament) injuries seldom require surgery.

Second: it does not tell you how badly the ligament is injured. The reason this is important is that minor injuries usually require minor treatment. More severe injuries may require more substantial treatment, rehabilitation, and possibly surgery.

Also Known As: Knee ligament tear, knee ligament injury

    Thank goodness.

That being said, you have to be careful. We have a chance at the playoffs here, or at least a chance at 10-6, but I think that's only if Griffin is in there, and if we go to the playoffs we need him as close to 100% as possible.

As GHH said, we should be able to beat Cleveland without him, so I would plan on starting Kirk. Let him strut his stuff and earn a future paycheck. If Kirk falls flat, throws some INTs or something, THEN bring Griffin out, but try and let him have a week off to get to 100%, then have him whup Philly and Dallas.

    I agree with this.

I just got a MRI update and wanted to let everyone know ASAP because I haven't seen any MRI news here.

It is relieving news that it's not a ACL.

Regardless of if he's capable of playing or not next week, the Shanahans have a nice situation making the Browns prepare for both scenarios, therefore we will not know until gametime I reckon.

I'm assuming those numbers pertain to mortals.

FWIW, the Browns have won 3 in a row. Granted, two of the wins were over the Raiders and Chiefs.

A sprain is not necessarily a tear, normally it is just a stretch to the ligament with inflammation - grade 1 or 2. But if it is above that then it is a tear to the ligament and while it only needs time it would be considered severe with time lost. It will be interesting how it unfolds.

    Did you read the article?
A strain is an injury to a muscle or tendon in which the muscle fibres tear as a result of overstretching. A strain is also colloquially known as a pulled muscle. The equivalent injury to a ligament is a sprain.[1]

Your ligaments are tough, elastic-like bands that connect bone to bone and hold your joints in place. A sprain is an injury to a ligament caused by tearing of the fibers of the ligament. The ligament can have a partial tear, or it can be completely torn apart.

Of all sprains, ankle and knee sprains occur most often. Sprained ligaments swell rapidly and are painful. Generally, the greater the pain and swelling, the more severe the injury is. For most minor sprains, you probably can treat the injury yourself.
Sprains and strains are the most common injury experienced by athletes as well as by people in the workplace. Many people use these terms interchangeably to describe everything from a twisted ankle to a pulled hamstring, but they are two specific injuries.

A sprain is a stretch or tear in a ligament (the bands of fibrous tissue that connect our bones at the joints).
A strain is also a stretch or tear, this time affecting the muscle itself or a tendon (the tissue that connect the muscles to the bones).

I hope RG3 heals quickly. I want him playing when Dallas avenges the Thanksgiving loss. However, these "sprains" will severely limit his ability to play a full game. Cleveland isn't a pushover, and Griffin could get seriously hurt if he tries to play the hero.

I appreciate it, thanks for creating a separate post so we could get the news quickly, which was your intention. Not clicking and scrolling through a 20+ page thread.

Good news, and I agree with everybody else. We should be able to beat Cleveland without Robert, so let him chill next week.
