Default Start Kirk Cousins this week vs Browns

    Here's why:

It's Cleveland. Yes they have a stingy defense, but if this team wants to make it to the playoffs they have to pull this one out without Bob Griff. Let him rest. Also this could be a great audition for Kirk for other teams. Mike and Mike said this mourning they can name 4 teams right off the bat that could easily use Kirk's talents. If he puts up huge numbers in a winning effort, we could end up with the opportunity to replenish the draft picks in a **Matt Flynn type deal that we lost trying to getting Bob. Well not all of them, but some of them. Honestly I think Kirk will start anyway

I really want to see what this kid can do in a full game.

**EDIT: Sorry about the Flynn reference, he was not traded to Seattle my mistake*

No way. Sorry, but I enjoy the idea of having Cousins as our backup instead of Grossman. I didn't vote either. I'm more undecided really. RG3 should only play if he feels close to 100%. I know he won't be exactly 100% a week after a sprain. I'm cool with Kirk getting the start if needed, but only if RG3 seriously can't go.

We have a very real shot at making the playoffs and you don't hinge something like that on some sort of Kirk Cousins evaluation day. We need our best and he isn't it. If he was our best he would have been the #2 overall pick and a current candidate for rookie of the year. He's a backup QB, with talent yes, but unless RG3 is injured to the point where he can't play, I don't see why you would hinge your entire season on the bet that he'll play a nice game. I think he would, he's a good young QB who will only get better, but you don't test him out for the first time during a run at the post season unless you have no other alternative.

You also have to think long-term. There is pretty much no way RG3 will be back to 100% by Sunday, after the way he looked yesterday. I've had injured knees, I know what that's like. If you're not 100% healed, you are at MUCH greater risk of injuring the knee further. Maybe doing serious damage.

You want RG3 to be the franchise for years to come, I think the prudent move is to rest him this week, even if they were playing somebody good (which they are not). Look what the Nats did with Strasburg. You have to think big picture with an investment like RG3. It's a tough call but it's the smart call.

Nats made the wrong call with Strasburg and they squandered their chances at winning the world series

very much so agreed but I feel like the two situations are very different

Stras NEEDS his arm to be successful

RGIII is a quarterback so his arm is what is most important.

SS could have his career ended with another elbow injury...not the case for RGIII

The Stras Griff comparison you're responding to is ridiculous, but I'm not sure they point you're trying to make with your response.

If RG3 seriously injured his elbow of his throwing arm it would absolutely threaten his career.

Speaking to the current injury that RG3 is dealing with -- the biggest reason for RG3's success this season is his ability/threat to run. It's only a grade 1 sprain but with only a week of rest I can't imagine the kid will be 100%. So, the biggest thing that makes him special at this point will be slightly diminished.

/\/\/\ This I COMPLETELY agree with. NATS would have won it ALL. I'm still reeling from the final game. THAT being said, we AREN'T in the paloffs, so I say rest the man. We need him to beat the Pukes and put the nail in the coffin of the Walrus.

If we sweep the PUKES and the one's headed by the Walrus, I would say this was an EXTREMELY successful season

Making the playoffs trumps beating rivals in meaningless games

There's really no comparison here. Two completely different situations and sports.

How about a third option--here you go: "we--fans on a message board with limited knowledge of the situation--should trust the coaching staff, medical personnel, and Robert to make an informed, professional decision?"

    I know what trumps what
True that beating them is not meaningless, but in the grander scale of things, I'd rather be 14-2 and win a SB with 2 losses to the Cowboys or Eagles or Giants, then sweep them and have that be the highlight of the year. I think what he was saying is, set your expectations higher for a playoff berth, then just beating a division rival.

Yes, it is "just" a message board. That doesn't mean that what we say is "gospel." We're fans. We can speculate.

Grade 1 sprains take a few days to heal and Robert is a world class athlete with a world class body. Why would you assume there is no chance he won't be 100 percent? Having seen the competitor Robert is, no chance he doesn't start unless the coaches just don't let him.

^^ If Bob is 85% or better, he should play, this team is carrying a lot of energy right now and the Browns game has trap written all over it, this is a must win game, with that said, I have confidence in Cousins if Griff isn't healthy.
