You and D-Toast and the other 70,000 Redskins in that stadium had the time of their lives on Sunday. I know I'll remember it for a long, long time. There are literally thousands of great stories to be told and written in the wake of that game!

So naturally, some goofball at the Post decides to troll the entire fanbase so people will link it and talk about the Post. I refuse.

But, I would like to know the origin of the name "Yellow Canoe"...seems like you could come up with something better.
Also, did you go to VT and was that one of the reasons D-Hall gave you the helmet?

Agreed. While she probably could have worded the first paragraph better, I don't think she was ripping you for the nickname at all. From what I can tell, she's just telling the story of how you got a helmet from DHall.

The warpaint is awesome, btw. When I saw it on TV, I was like "that dude's legit."

Dangers of living in a PC world. She's a white apologist who ASSUMES people are offended by these names. I mean, let's take a step back and think about team names in general. When you hear lions, bears, giants, eagles, rams, etc do you think negative connotations? Not speaking of as teams but as mascots. Bears and lions are fierce, eagles and rams regal, giants intimidating. So why on god's green earth would a team choose a name to demonize and insult it? That's just straight dumb. To think you have to be part of a culture to celebrate it is more racist than what they are rallying against.

I can't help but think of the Florida State Seminoles. Though they have given millions to the tribe, and the tribe officially supports florida state's use of the name and logo and sends its own people to commencement ceremonies and games, the ncaa decided they understood the situation better and that any team couldn't use a native american mascot or name.

91% of native americans polled across the united states found the name redskins acceptable. To have 91% of people agree on anything that is supposedly a controversial issue is astounding. When the university of north dakota moved to have its named changed from the fighting sioux, one of the sioux tribes in the area SUED to have the name retained. For Kogod to be a fan, and then decry fans for actually celebrating the name, is unbelievable hypocrisy.

Don't worry bro, despite your crazy antics, you're a far more reasonable person than she is.

Hm. I read it and didn't think it was bad at all. I think she was just saying you embrace the Native American identity of the team mascot, unlike some out there. Not bad at all. Anyway the article was mainly focused on the fact that you got a helmet which is rare, not the politics of our mascot or your nickname. Much ado about nothing.

This, my friend, is one of the best posts I have ever read in regards to the use of the Redskins name. Well done.

Reading thru the thread I am certain that no more than 3 people actually read the link in the op. I am not even certain the op read it....or else maybe I am having a hard time finding where she said anything negative.

My child cannot sing Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer at school, nor can they have a "Christmas" Party, talk about Santa Clause or have glitter.... I wish the reporters would spend time talking about the degradation of our society due to liberal "PC" people. If someone is butt hurt over you cheering for your team they should get bent imo.

Bottom line is, you are at a Redskins game... you're cheering for the team that you support.. don't let mindless idiots change what you're doing.

Yellow Canoe and his friend, who is “waiting to hear back from the spirits for his Sunday name,” made it to the Jumbotron at FedEx.

I can easily see the smarmy, negative tone in this quote. I am highly biased, though.

Good on you for getting on the Jumbotron (totally saw you on TV!) and for getting the helmet. There's nothing wrong with what you're doing, keep doing what you want.

The tone of it seems wrong. Why would you even bring up the redskins controversial name in an article about a fan getting a helmet? Seems unnecessary unless you're trying to work that angle. Someone who didn't care one iota about the controversy wouldn't have even mentioned it.

It's not that she's being negative... it's that she's bringing attention to it, trying to stir up controversy and get attention for the Post. Their nicknames in relation to the Redskins name controversy had nothing to do with the real story of D-Hall giving him his helmet. Look at the url... it's blatant.

    Not inappropriate at all.
