    Default Redskins Cowboys: Rivalry

    Hi all

Thought i would share the following video i found on YouTube.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mVT9yud6X60

The footage of the 31st December 1973 NFC Championship game with the Cowboys at RFK is awesome. Also the NFC Championship against the Cowboys on 22nd January 1983. You can feel how much the former players and officials of the club hated them. Joe Theismann quoting how the ground was shaking at RFK with all the cheering. WOW!

and the burning of the Cowboy helmet in the stands at the last game at RFK.

I would like to hear from anyone here who went to any of the games or saw them teams and felt that passion!

    HTTR! Hate Cowboys!

The voice of Pat Summeral saying 'and RFK Stadium is rockin' will always be in my head.

I don't care how trashy some say it was, RFK was a place no one wanted to play when the Redskins were rolling. Oh, and when the reporter was by a cage and threw a Cowboys jersey into it, then some pigs/hogs went ape**** tearing it up was cool to watch. Thats must-see t.v. there...

The most exciting part was Dallas stole the rights to our song Hail to the Redskins to blackmail their way into the NFL, and that is 100% correct and true, and that's what started the rivalry at the very beginning. Then they got very good and won the SuperBowl in 71 and started bragging. The following years were slobber knocking games. The very next year we beat them in the NFC Championship.

From there it was back and forth until 1982, they beat us good at RFK and was the only team to beat us that year, it was the 1st strike year. We won home field through the playoffs and the Cowboys started talking mad **** saying we couldn't even park their cars. They packed everything thinking they were leaving RFK and going strait to Cali for the Super Bowl.

The atmosphere was off the chart, Riggins got rolling in the playoffs and the fun bunch started the 1st game. We had 3 playoff game, the Lions, the Vikings who stated they would butcher the Hogs and then Dallas. Riggins broke records running over defenses starting with Detroit, then 188 against the Butchers, I mean Vikings, then the best game I ever seen and been a part of the showdown for the Super Bowl against Dallas.

Dallas took a 3 point lead and never lead again. Riggins ran them over all day for 144 yards and Theismann torched them with the fun bunch, Riggins ran 9 strait times on the final drive to run the clock out, and ran the same play 9 times in a row just dragging Cowboys and running them over, and not just the stadium, but Washington DC just exploded with cheers. Thousands and thousands ran to the streets, climbed light poles and one huge party. It was the most exciting win I ever been a part of. Sure the Super Bowl win was icing on the cake, but in no way did that Super Bowl have that atmosphere that the NFC Championship had in RFK. Words cant describe it, all week as the game got closer fans were making all kinds of things saying beat Dallas and some worse lol.

That was the beginning of a true rivalry, and not only with Dallas, NY and Philly were beats as well. The NFC East was the true Beast then, no other division in the NFL wanted to see any of us on their schedule, all our teams were very good and our defenses would knock you out literally! Those time look to be coming back, a good fight now days for sure, but our teams back then ware plain beast's! you can look at some of my things I posted on youtube under MuztangSteve. I had the entire games posted but they took them off due to NFL rights. I was showing the games, not selling them, which I have given some out to friends.
