Wayne LaPierre, the group’s executive vice president, read a statement at a news conference but did not take questions. He also criticized violent video games and spoke of the need to deal more effectively with the mentally ill.

Gun-free school zones identified by signs, he said, “tell every insane killer in America that schools are the safest place to effect maximm mayhem with minimum risk.”

If guns are used to protect banks, airports, and politicians, he asked, why is it “bad when it is used to protect our children in their schools?”

“It’s not just our duty to protect them, it’s our right to protect them,” he said.
So the NRA's meaningful solution is to have people buy more guns? No way!

Basically it's everyone's fault but guns. Video games, the media, hollywood, but not guns.

You are right. If everyone was in a closet huddled together there would likely be less "misses". But I am not aware of any of the casualties actually being sustained in a closet? In the actual classroom no way a person of his level of proficiency does more damage on auto than he does on semi. It is tough to keep the front sight post on a single target while firing auto...very difficult to switch between targets. There is a reason why the military removed that option.(edit: by and large. There are still some pockets of units that have "auto" as an option.)

yeah, then that just went up after Rictus posted. I checked the site before I replied and nothing was there.

Point was that most others saw this as a infomercial. Pure shambles.

Apparently the right now thinks increased Government IS the answer to something. Funny how that's contrary to their mantra....

Might as well surround all schools with fences and razor wires. That would make more sense than their "solution"

I'm pretty sure Japan has a pretty big video gaming and movie culture. Why do they have much less gun violence?

We worship the gun. It's sacred here.
    We're enamored with it.
    Maybe that's the difference.

This thread gets better everyday (sarcasm). The anti-gun crowd openly mocks the NRA for having a stance opposite of their own. They say that is irrational. Yet their own views are seen as irrational by pro-gun people. Why is it that one side gets to decide what is correct and openly deride the opposing view?

Did you watch the press conference? Going to guess no, because if so, you might understand the irony of this post.

Because they blamed everything but the thing they endorse. How can you take them seriously?

That's the state of politics in this country. And has been for far too long.

Of course it is. Hard to get into a school fortified with fences and razor wire. at the very least it would provide enough of a hinderance for the school to go on lockdown, and allow time for the authorities to show up.
