NRA blaming video games. Yeah, it's the video games fault that everyone is so violent here. They don't play video games in other countries...

Japan loves their video games and their gun violence is amongst some of the lowest in the world

Clearly violent video games encourage violent people!

Talk to TWA. The cost is nominal at best.

And I really think you have a misconception of how much muzzle climb there is with an AR. And there are other semi-auto and full-auto weapons with little to no climb at all. In a closed space like a classroom full auto would be unbelievably devastating.

But I'm failing to see your point. You aren't suggesting full auto should be legal are you? If not, and you are suggesting that an AR is somehow more dangerous than an M16, you are simply wrong.
I don't have a misconception of how much muzzle climb there is. In fact I am very aware of how difficult it is to engage multiple targets at even 10 yards on auto. All I know is what the US Army trains for in CQB...controlled pairs. Burst would be useful if you wanted to put 3 rounds...in the same target. Even the operators that I have trained with typically employ a burst technique while on "auto" in the same method of putting multiple rounds in the same target. More discussion on the particulars of any particular incident would probably be inappropriate.

And if you had actually read what you quoted you would have seen that I specifically said that I wasn't advocating full auto, It was written right in there. Just pointing it out for informational purposes since so many are questioning why anyone needs a "military style" weapon. The answer is, in my opinion at least, they don't. And nor do they access to them. Because the ones used in these incidents do not have the same functionality of a military weapon. They look like them.

Assuming these are cops we are adding to the existing force (or are people advocating taking them off their normal duties - thus weaking the force?)...and at a minimum cost of 100k (that's fully loaded salary), the cost alone to some school districts would be astronomical.
my kid's elementary school has what.. 30 teachers? 50? plus who knows hom much staff? re-assigning one FTE from janitorial staff to a security outreach position? i dunno.... it doesn't hurt. BUT IT IS NOT THE SOLUTION, and it is evading the true question ESPECIALLY when it comes from the NRA.

in other words: fine, a cop at school could do some good. That doesn't mean that there aren't too damned many guns... right?

^Or maybe we should attempt to eliminate the pro gun culture altogether? Whose to say some teacher doesn't flip a **** and shoots up some kids.

    Columbine had an armed guard:

The NRA proposal was similar to its call after the 1999 shooting spree at Columbine High School in Colorado, when two teenagers killed 12 fellow students and a teacher before committing suicide. That school had an armed sheriff's deputy on duty who was unable to stop the shooting.

I'm not an anti-gun guy, but it seems that since there are not many arguing that I have a right to own a shoulder fired SAM that there can be a discussion of where we draw the line. I think that the cultural causes are certainly relevant, too.

Same article points out that 1 in 7 police officers would have to be re-assigned to schools.

attempt away, just don't use weak ass arguments and justifications.

if the threat to kids is real I expect you to act like it.

Once again..WTF is stopping a teacher now from shooting kids?
My suggestion allows them to be screened and tested

This whole discussion has moved from fearful and angry into full blown absurdity.
I have watched more people here and on facebook strongly advocating for an arms race in our schools.
    Seriously, we're too frickin' stupid.

A few guns in screened and qualified hands are a arms race?

    Your right, that is absurd
