This week is definitely not a gimme for the Cowboys. I went down to New Orleans for the season opener, which was the greatest football experience I've ever had. (By the way, New Orleans may be the best NFL host city--great people, great atmosphere, fun as hell.) I was talking to all of the Saints fans, and they all hate Dallas almost as much as we do--ALMOST. They treat that game like a division rivalry, and hopefully the team does, too. As well as the Saints played yesterday, I hope the Cowboys overlook them.

The thing is that the Dal@ss-Saints game is in Arlington, TX. Still rooting hard for the Saints though and a Skins victory. Hopefully both things happen.

Are you sure about that? I thought we lost the last game of the year to them in 79 which knocked us out.

WOW- its hard to believe that we are talking playoffs and possible division crown for the Redskins.
Especially with our starting QB and RB both being rookies.

So what is the current common opponents record?

Not too hard to figure out, actually. For ease of explanation, let's assume that the Giants lose out and are eliminated, we beat the Eagles, Dallas loses to the Saints, then beats us. Washington and Dallas are tied atop the standings at 9-7. They are 1-1 against each other, and in my scenario, would each be 4-2 against the NFC East. We move onto the record against common opponents. It's easy to figure out because due to NFL scheduling, we have 14 games in common. Both teams played six games in the division, both teams played all four teams in the AFC North, and all four teams in the NFC South.

Each team has two "uncommon" opponents. For the Skins, it was the Rams and the Vikings. For Dallas, it was the Bears and the Seahawks. And this is the problem. We were 1-1 in our uncommon games since we beat the Vikings but lost to the Rams. Dallas lost to both the Bears and Seahawks.

What this means is that in the 12 common games in this scenario (you take out the head to head matchups), Dallas would be 8-4. We would only be 7-5. That's why they have us on tiebreaker #3 if they beat us.

We are the better team. We beat the giants (should have been two times if it wasn't for that boneheaded playcall) and we destroyed the cowboys and eagles already. The Redskins are playing their best ball right now and there's nobody that can stop us but us. We own this division and I don't see a team in the league stopping us.

Is it really too much for me to say that you're being obviously biased? Lol. There's plenty of teams that have stopped you, and even more that can if you reach the playoffs.

I think at this point we root for the giants next week and root for the cowboys to lose.

Our game on Sunday night against the cowboys will get flexed. If the giants win week 17 then the cowboys will have no shot at the playoffs (cant win division and their tiebreaker for wildcard is bad). That could give us an edge.
