Default Fredericksburg.Com: Redskins Sign Linebacker Vic So’oto From Green Bay’s Practice Squad

    http://news.fredericksburg.com/redsk...ractice-squad/

ASHBURN – The Washington Redskins signed linebacker Vic So’oto off the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad Wednesday morning to fill the vacant roster spot caused by the suspension of offensive tackle Jordan Black.

The 6-foot-3, 263-pound So’oto split time between Green Bay and Oakland this season, playing in five games with one tackle. He played in seven games with the Packers last season and had seven tackles. Green Bay signed him as a college free agent out of BYU after the 2011 draft.

Washington also signed Pat Boyle, a 6-foot-5, 301-pound guard, to its practice squad and released linebacker Kourtnei Brown. Boyle spent time with Detroit in training camp and on its practice squad this season.

Black, who was suspended four games by the NFL for a violation of its policy on performance-enhancing substances, was moved to the reserve/suspended list.

Default Redskins Park: REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

    PRESS RELEASE

    For Immediate Release

    December 19, 2012

    REDSKINS MAKE ROSTER MOVES

LOUDOUN COUNTY, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced today that they have signed linebacker Vic So’oto to their active roster from the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad and free agent guard Pat Boyle to the team’s practice squad. In addition, the team released linebacker Kourtnei Brown from their practice squad.

So’oto (6-3, 263) was originally signed by the Green Bay Packers as a college free agent out of Brigham Young on July 28, 2011. He was inactive for Weeks 1-3 with Green Bay before making his NFL debut in Week 4. He appeared in seven games for the Packers in 2011, totaling seven tackles (five solo), one sack and adding three tackles on special teams.

So’oto was released by the Packers on Sept. 10, 2012, before signing with the Oakland Raiders on Sept. 25. He was released by the Raiders on Nov. 6, 2012, and re-signed with the Packers on Nov. 12. He was released from the Packers’ active roster on Dec. 11, before being re-signed to the team’s practice squad two days later.

So’oto, 25, attended Brigham Young, where he appeared in 48 games with 14 starts during his career, garnering first-team All Mountain West Conference honors as a senior. He saw action in 24 games as a tight end, making 12 catches for 124 yards (10.3 avg.). He played his final two years as a defensive end, totaling 55 tackles, including 15.5 for loss, six sacks and an interception.

So’oto was born on Aug. 19, 1987. He attended Carlsbad (Calif.) H.S., where he earned first-team All-San Diego honors by the San Diego Union-Tribune following his senior season in 2004.

Boyle (6-5, 301) originally signed with the Detroit Lions as a college free agent out of Temple on May 10, 2012. He was released by the Lions on Aug. 31, before being added to their practice squad on Oct. 16. He was released from the Lions’ practice squad on Nov. 16.

Boyle, 22, attended Temple, where he appeared in 42 games with 23 starts and garnered 2011 first-team All-MAC honors as a senior.

Boyle was born on May 30, 1990, and attended Calvert Hall H.S. in Towson, Md. He garnered 2007 All-MIAA Conference honors, named to the Maryland Varsity Dream Team and was selected as an All-Star by the Baltimore Touchdown Club.

Brown (6-6, 255) signed with the team’s practiced squad on Dec. 5, 2012.

I know these moves don't really make a difference for the most part (just for depth) so looking at it that way, is it safe to assume that Monty and Polumbus aren't as bad off as we possibly expected?

A LB to replace Jordan Black? Hmmm. I guess with Compton up already, this makes sense. Don't know much about the cat... but this is two BYU LBs on the team to go along with Bryan Kehl.

I think we'll know more today. This seems to be a good depth signing since this cat was on the Packers radar and we may need some help on teams if Zo can't go. Kehl is going to have to pick it up!

I think I saw this guy play in a preseason game for the Pack once, he was pretty explosive as a pass rusher, from what I remember.

Eh, worth a look at the end of the year.

Didn't Lorenzo Alexander get injured as well? This guy seems to have ST experience...

I would've thought we'd be trying to sign a scrub DB rather than another LB (anyone know why we didn't claim Talib off waivers?). Coaches must see something in this guy. Makes me wonder if they're considering Orakpo as trade bait in offseason.
