ES Coverage & Interactive Game Day Thread: 2012 Redskins vs Eagles

    12/23/12

    VICTORY!!!!

    Redskins 27 - Eagles 20

    Merry Griffmas everybody!

Welcome to Lincoln Financial Field where your First Place NFC East Washington Redskins look to sweep a pathetic Eagles team.

You already know the Eagles are a hot mess and back in the NFC east cellar where they belong. Andy Reid, by all accounts, is coaching what should be his final home game with the Eagles. They've got McCoy back from a concussion today but he'll be splitting carries and not their feature back. It doesn't matter though as Washington's run D has stepped up since the Bye Week.

I ran into RG3 last night in the lobby. While he wasn't mobbed, he did hang out a bit and take pictures with a few lucky fans that happened to see him.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR THIS WEEK

    • The Redskins producing zero turnovers in a game for the sixth time this season, setting a new team record. The team’s five games without a turnover in 2012 are tied for the most in team history (five in 1999 and 2008).

    • The Redskins rushing for 200 yards for the fourth time this season, which would tie the team’s most since the 1970 AFL-NFL merger (four in 1985).

    • The Redskins rushing for 150 yards for the 11th time (an NFL high).

    • The Redskins rushing for 22 yards to move past the 1979 team (2,328) into third in team history in rushing yards in a season, behind the 1983 (2,625) and 1985 (2,523) teams.

    • The Redskins adding to their 16 rushing touchdowns this sea- son, the team’s most since accumulating 23 rushing touchdowns during the 1999 season.

    • The Redskins scoring 30 points or more in a game for the eighth time in a season for the first time since 1991 (eight games).

    • The Redskins gaining 400 yards or more in a game for the sev- enth time in a season for only the third time since 1970 and the first time since 1989 (seven).

    • The Redskins securing multiple interceptions in a game for the seventh time this season, their most multi-interception games in a season since 1999 (seven).

    • The Redskins returning an interception for a touchdown for the fourth time this season. The last time the Redskins had four interception return touchdowns in a season was 1984.

    • The Redskins scoring a fifth defensive touchdown in a season for the first time since 1994.

    • Linebacker London Fletcher playing in his 239th consecutive game, tied for the longest active streak in the NFL.

    • Fletcher registering an interception to move him into sole possession of second-most interceptions by an active linebacker. He is currently tied with Chicago’s Brian Urlacher with 22.

    • Fletcher securing his 12th interception as a Redskin, tying him for fifth-most by a linebacker in team history with Sam Huff and Wilber Marshall.

    • Fletcher setting a single-season career high with his fifth interception of the season.

    • Kicker Kai Forbath converting his next two field goal attempts to break Garrett Hartley for the NFL record for consecutive field goals made to start an NFL career (16).

    • Wide receivers Pierre Garçon (two yards) and Joshua Morgan (11 yards) gaining the necessary receiving yards needed to reach 500 yards on the season and give Washington four 500-yard receivers in one year for the first time since 2000 (five).

    • Quarterback Robert Griffin III passing for four touchdowns to join Sonny Jurgensen (1964, 67) as the only quarterbacks in team his- tory since 1960 with at least four passing touchdowns in three different games in a single season.

    • Griffin III adding to his team records for completions (233), passing yards (2,906) and passing touchdowns by a rookie (18).

    • Griffin III improving upon franchise records for rushing yards (748) and rushing touchdowns (six) by a quarterback.

    • Griffin III adding to his NFL record for rushing yards by a rookie quarterback (748).

    • Griffin III attempting 25 passes to break Norm Snead’s team re- cord for pass attempts in a rookie season (375 in 1961).

    • Griffin III passing for 94 yards to post the 20th 3,000-yard pass- ing season in Redskins history.

    • Cornerback DeAngelo Hall registering an interception to reach 40 for his career, making him the sixth active player to reach the 40-interception milestone.

    • Linebacker Ryan Kerrigan posting one sack to match and 1.5 sacks to surpass his single-season career high from a season ago (7.5).

    • Runningback Alfred Morris improving upon his team rookie records in rushing yards (1,322 yards), rushing attempts (280) and rush- ing touchdowns (nine).

    • Morris scoring one touchdown to match or two touchdowns to break Pro Football Hall of Famer Charley Taylor’s team rookie record for total touchdowns (10 in 1964).

    • Morris notching his seventh 100-yard rushing performance. The Redskins’ last 12 100-yard rushing performances have all been by rookies (three by Roy Helu, Jr. and two by Evan Royster in 2011; six by Morris and one by Griffin III in 2012).

    • Morris rushing for 195 yards to set the team record for rushing yards in a season (Clinton Portis — 1,516 in 2005).

    • Morris gaining 78 rushing yards to post the fifth 1,400-yard rushing season in Redskins history.

    • Morris rushing for 100 yards to become the first Redskin with seven 100-yard rushing games in a season since Clinton Portis in 2005. He is already the first Redskins rookie with six 100-yard rushing games since the merger.

    • Morris carrying 20 times to become the first Redskin with 300 rushing attempts in a season since Clinton Portis in 2007 (325).

    • Wide receiver Santana Moss catching his 45th touchdown pas sas a member of the Redskins, making him the seventh player all-time to reach that milestone with Washington.

    • Moss catching two touchdowns to give him nine receiving touchdowns on the year, matching his best single season total as a member of the Redskins (2005).

    A WIN WOULD
... clinch a playoff berth if combined with losses by the Bears, Giants and Vikings.
... represent the Redskins’ sixth consecutive win and give the team its first six-game winning streak since the final five weeks and the NFC Wild Card Round of the 2007 season. The six-game winning streak would be the Redskins’ first six-game regular season winning streak since winning seven in a row in Weeks 2-9 of the 1996 season.
... be the Redskins’ ninth win, the team’s highest total since 2007.
... result in the Redskins’ 23rd nine-win season in team history.
... make the Redskins 9-6 this season and push them at least three games above .500 after 15 games for the first time since being 10-6 after the final week of the 2005 season.
... be Washington’s fifth road win of the season, the most by the team since winning seven road games in 1991.
... improve the Redskins to 4-1 against NFC East opponents, the team’s most wins against divisional opponents since winning five games against the NFC East in 2005.
... represent the Redskins’ first sweep of the Eagles since 2008.
... give Head Coach Mike Shanahan his 174th overall victory as an NFL head coach, tying Mike Holmgren for 11th all-time in NFL history.

Skins are warming up wearing white jerseys with the gold pants.RG3 is wearing the brace. But he's also warming up with 40 yard passes. I fully expect Robert tocome out today with a pissed off attitude & make a statement.

Lots of burgundy in the lower bowl behind the Skins bench with a little under 45 minutes before kickoff.

Eagles win the toss & will receive. Philly pumps in the Rocky theme music. Eagles take the kickoff back for 22 yards 1st & 10 at the 24. McCoy to start & gets a 7 yard run.Foles dumps it off to McCoy for a 1st down at the 37. Foles passes incomplete. 2nd & 10. Brown runs to the left for 9 yards. 3rd & 1 at the 46. Brown again to the left for no gain. 4th &1 Eagles go for it & convertfor a 1st down. 1st & 10at the Skins 39. McCoy gets a loss of 2. 2nd & 12 at the 41.Foles under pressure, flushed out & passes incomplete. 3rd & 12. Foles complete to Advant who gets drilled by Josh Wilson. Chains are out.....its short.4th & 1 at the 30.Philly to go for it again.QB sneak gets it. 1st down at the 27. Foles throws a TD to Macklin.Kerrigan called for offsides & its declined. Philly kicks the extra point & they're up 7-0. 11 plays 76 yards 4:51 off the clock.

Paul & Royster back to receive...Paul returns like he's about to break it for a TD until finally shoved out & Skins called for holding. Skins take it from their 9.The RG3 show is about to start...

Skins feed it to AlMo to get some breathing room. 2nd & 5 from the 14. Morris again for a loss of 4. 3rd & 9 from the 10. 4 WR set...Griff complete to Hank for 10 yards. 1st & 10 at the 20. Griff with a screen to Garcon for 8.2nd & 2 at the 28th. Moss with a run around to the edge for a 12 yard gain. 1st & 10 at the 40. Griff complete to Garcon for 17. 1st & 10 at the 43. Griffen carries to the edge for 5. 2nd & 5 at the 38. Morris for 3. 3rd & 2at the 35. Griff incomplete to Paul. 4th & 2 at the 35. Skins going for it.....Griff to Moss who bobbles it incomplete. Eagles take over.

RIley & Kerrigan make Foles look pedstrain on this drive with a sack eack. And a fumble recovery.

Skins need to come away with 7 this drive. Skins keep attacking the right side of the D & get 5-7 yards each time. Skins get stopped & will atempta 45 yard FG. Which is good. Eagles 7 Skins 3

Browns with a return. Holding callled on Philly. 1st & 10at the 16.

Eagles for 3 & out & puynt from their 16. Crawford to receive. Punt is shanked ?& you start to hear the Booos come in from the outside.Skins take over at their 47.

Griff completes a shot down & across he field to GArcon for 27 yards.Morris isn't gertting much up the middle this drive. Skins fail to convert a 3rd down & go for the FG. 42 yard kick is good. Kobra Kai with the rockie record for consecutive FGs.

Kerrigan sacks Foles again to start Philly's next drive. A few plays later Fletch has another INT. Skins take over at the 25. HAVE to get the TD here. And they do TOUCHDOWN Joshua Morgan. Kobra Kai kicks the extra & the Skins take the lead 13-7

Philly moving the ball well. So far the only thing stopping them in the 2 minute warming. And penalties once they start to sniff the RedZone. Eagles go for the kick & make it. Skins 13 iggles 10.

    HALFTIME

Thought Griff may loose the brace during the half but he's still wearing it to start the 3rd. Foles has a right hand injury but will return. Skins take over at their 28. Griff continues to Garcon for a 29 yard gain. Garcon subs out. Morrisrips em for 9 yards. 2md & 1. Morris for 3 & a first down. Skins burn a Time Out. Niles Paul with a catch for 21 yards. Another 1st down. 1st & goal at the 10. Got to get 7 here. And Morris does. TOUCHDOWN. Forbath nails the XP & its Skins 20 iggles 10.

Eagles chewing up some yardage on the D. Go figure. Skins D has allowed over 200 yards so far. Yet this has been typical of this D. Give up tons of yardage but tightenup in the Red Zone. Foles with a 1 yard run up the middle. 2nd & 9 from the 12. Williams sacks the stuffing out of Foles for a loss of 7. 3rd & 16. Skins hold em to a FG. Skins 20 iggles 13.

After a touchback Skins take over at the 20. SKins called for a backward pass on a Griffen sack. Skins challenge......And don't get it. It's stilla sack & a fumble. 2 & 27 from the 3. Morris for 5. Moss catches for 4. Skins punt.

McCoy looses 3 yards to start this drive. Eagles continue to get backed up into a 4th down that they dont convert. Skins ball at midfield. Skins driving. Again need to come away with 7 here. Griff sacked hard by Cole. Pass for Hank gets dropped. #rd & 10. Griff for 22 yard TD to Moss. ExtraPooint is good & its Skins 27 iggles 13.

Iggle go 3 & out & punt. Crawford returns.

WOW. Cooley finally catches a pass.

Skins D gives up an easy iggle TD. Skins up 27-20.

Skins march but stall then try to convert a 4th down & get a Delay of Game. Iggles ball. Iggles get to midfield. 2:30 left on the clock. 3rd down. McCoy converts.1st down & thats the 2 min warning.

Iggles moving. Meanwhile, Saints are currently up 31-17 over Dallas. Iggles 1st & 10 at the 25. 37 seconds left. Pass complete to McCoy & Philly burns their last TO. 2nd & 2 at the 17. 28 secs left. Foles throws it out of the endzone. 3rd down. Foles incomplete to Macklin. 4th down. 18 secs left. Pass complete to McCoy & hes knocked out after 12 yards. 1st down iggles. Foles incomplete to Moore & neaqrly picked by the Skins. Reid's last home game possibly? The Skins really need to bring it this game, seems as though every game since week nine has been a must win game. Griff back really helps, look for a heavy dose of Morris and the play action bombs to continue.

    RIP 21

Griffin said that he was going to watch the game with his family and that he will never attend a Super Bowl if he needs a ticket to get in.

Because the Redskins have a habit of dropping games they should win.

This has been beaten into us the past decade.

Now there's a reason to be nervous. Hopefully, Kyle has a plan to work around this injury. Execution is the key today, no matter what.
