Laron is just an injury waiting to happen
After 16 weeks PFF has Landry ranked (out of all NFL safeties):
55 overall (34 in coverage, 58 against the rush, and 22 as a rusher himself, and 83 in bad penalties against him)
By comparison:
Madieu Williams is 65 overall (50 in coverage, 64 against the rush, and 20 as a rusher himself, and 69 in bad penalties against him)
DeJon Gomes is 69 overall (32 in coverage, 70 against the rush, and 78 as a rusher himself, and 72 in bad penalties against him)
Reed Doughty is 71 overall (65 in coverage, 65 against the rush, and 30 as a rusher himself, and 48 in bad penalties against him)
So yeah I guess he would be a slight upgrade on what we are running out there now. However his past with us, attitude, injuries, and contract demands tell me we should not bring him back.
I know this may be an unpopular decision, but I would take him back.
Taking him back doesn't mean we have to start him, and he could serve value as a dime or nickel defender where we can blitz him or drop him back into coverage.
The only question is would the pay be worth the minimal value he would bring. And the answer to that could very well be no.

He wants a big contract, so it's not even a decision.
Take him back for vet minimum? Maybe, but he isn't signing for that.
We don't have cap room to waste on troublemakers, we are trying to rebuild a franchise that has sucked for 20 years, and it sucked with him at safety.
You want to turn the corner on the franchise and continue building the right way, or you want to dip your toe in the overpaid FA pond.
Landry has been on the Jets injury report since week 1 and yet this guy wants Carlos Rogers money.
Have fun with that Laron, maybe Jerruh Jones will throw a bone at ya.

who's Laron Landry?
________
I'd take Reed Doughty over LaRon Landry every day of the week and twice on Sunday. And I'm not joking. I know a year of Madieu Williams has people thinking crazy, but LaRon is used goods.
I would never welcome that clown back. He is a grade a douchebag.

I think he fits right in that circus with the Jets. Glad he is gone, we already have enough safeties that can't cover, why get another one.
Landry=Sam Shade w/ a bad attitude
Landry= Roy Williams after outlawing Horse Collar.
What we need are a couple high quality FS. It's a passing league nowadays.

I keep seeing this, but Trent and Davis were one toke away from a year's suspension. It's not like Jackson will cost a ton of money or be a bad cap hit. Bring him back, because I think he'll:
1) be good
2) have something to prove
3) cost cheap
4) won't risk a permanent ban like Dexter Manley.
So no, he's not a HUGE risk. He's a minimal risk as long as we have a plan B behind him and I think the FO will do that this year. I think they had a plan B, but the 18 million cap hit kind of put that to bed.

****, I'd love to have Landry in Dallas. RG3 to Garcon his ass to death.
I actually forgot dude was drafted in Top 10. So long ago, and he doesn't play like a Top 10 pick. He looks like one. His muscles got muscles. But he's a punk. He could walk all over Zorn but he couldn't handle a real coach like Shanahan. He's the type of guy that could make some big plays here and there on a crappy team with a bad coach and get nominated to the Pro Bowl, and look like a top safety in the league. But on a good team with structure from top to bottom and reasonable paydays to each player, he won't make it. His ego is too big. Hope we never touch him.
