The 4 people that were in each other faces and later came to blows 5 rows in front obviously were just wearing wrinkle make up. The guy who I watched spray his beer all over a 70 something year old woman at the Packers game a couple years back only dyed his hair grey. I'm sorry. I don't mean to be a jerk here. But when these discussions about the bad behavior in the stands and in the lots come up, the blame seems to ALWAYS get aimed at the younger fans.
I agree, its usually the older 40 and 50 years olds who are the dumb drunks, at least from what ive seen. The younger crowd is usually very adept at drinking because they do it multiple times a week, every week (college, clubs, bars, house parties). The older gentlemen who maybe drink once a month are always getting way too hammered and acting a fool, this is at least from what ive seen at Fedex field. I tailgate with a large crowd of 20 somethings and yes we get drunk, but this is a normal activity for us EVERY WEEK, so we know how to handle ourselves. The 40 somethings are past their prime in terms of handling their liquor.

Ludomaniac, are you really 59 years old? Because if you are and regularly tailgate with a group of 20 somethings I respect the hell out of that!

Ah, I see...the young alcoholics are better behaved... Sure.....through your eyes. Maybe if you were sober at the games, you might see all the drunks young and old and what idiots they are....and that the vast majority causing problems being hauled out of the stadium by PG's finest are.....wait for it....young adult males.

Now that is just based on a small sample size of about 90 games in both the upper and lower levels that I have attended....

Obviously it happens to all age groups, when people are drunk they are more likely to do stupid things, regardless of age. But just from what ive seen its been mostly the older gentlemen who are acting out. I just hate people who stereotype, if that post that first called out the "young drunks" was grouping race instead of age it would have been a big deal, so you can see why a couple people responded.

At least you used the word "gentlemen" to show respect ...

As far as "how to handle" yourselves ... again, not to generalize but the 20-somethings I know don't necessarily know. One woman that I know got a DUI a few years ago in a neighboring county (where she lived at that time) and went through the whole process of suspended license and such. Conventional wisdom would dictate that would be enough of a motivator to not do it again, yet she winds up with her second just a few months ago.

Again, it's not meant to say ALL 20-somethings fall into this category; but most of the DUIs I hear happen are to the 20-somethings. (The 40-somethings know when to either say when or call a cab ... )

As far as my tailgate goes ... anyone is welcome as long as you have a plan already in place to get home safely. A good friend who is a tailgate regular lost her father to a drunk driver years ago so there is a purpose behind what I do and ask ...

    cheers

Well, I hate people who want to be "politically correct". A stereotype develops based on observation and facts. Sometimes the stereotype gets overly broad or distorted, sure. But a stereotype happens because many people observe the behavior and associate it with certain people or group. Yes, there are racial stereotypes for people of all colors. Is that racist, bad, wrong....NO. Does it mean everyone in that particular group meets the stereotype? NO.

If you drink responsibly, then you don't have anything to be concerned about. But when you consider the drinking problem on our college campuses and in our high schools, you are kidding yourself if you think there is no alcohol problem among young adult males. That is not to say older people do not have a drinking problem also. But the vast majority of those "old" alcoholics likely started as "young" alcoholics. I drank my fair share and did other stupid things when I was a young adult male. I almost never drink anymore other than an occasional glass of wine. My experience is there are a lot more out of control young adults (male and female) at bars, stadiums, and other group activities than there are old drunk "gentlemen". You may believe that "older" men are a bigger problem at FedEx Field. But I bet a quick talk with the security at FedEx will tell you otherwise.

In fact, I'm going to email an old buddy who was high up in the Redskins organization and see who he was told by security is typically the bigger problem at the stadium....young or old drunk males.

Let's not let this thread get derailed by drinking discussion, there are literally dozens of other threads that address it on Extremeskins.

Let's hear some ideas for the cold weather and extended tailgate time. Don't know if I'll be able to get there at 3:30 on the dot but I'm going to smoke 20 lbs. of short ribs for dinner.

For the cold, layers, layers, and layers!! Also have some battery powered gloves I'm going to try out too. If you don't have those the little chemical packs you shake up give off some good heat. They have those for your feet too.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I heard back from my friend who saw all the post game incident reports from security for the past 5-6 years before the current season. No contest. By a wide margin 25-35 year old males was the single largest group of troublemakers at games. The good news is that compared to the other NFL teams, FedEx Field had far fewer incidents than most NFL stadiums.

Now back to the important stuff...THE game and tailgating.
