When a Grade III LCL ligament injury happens, more severe sprain or impact is absorbed by the outside of the knee causing the ligament to completely tear.

When this happens severe pain, bruising and swelling can be expected with inability to walk.

Use of crutches or a knee brace is recommended during the first week after the injury occurs.

Immobilizing the knee should not last more than a week because early range of motion will help in the healing process.

Once able to bend the knee, athletes should start using the stationary bicycle.

Walking with progression to jogging should be started as the pain subsides and allows to do so.

Use of hinged brace after one week is very helpful to keep the knee stable especially during the early stages of LCL rehab.

Early stages of Lateral Collateral Ligament injury treatment should include use of anti-inflammatory medication to help with swelling as well as RICE treatment.

After 4 weeks the knee should start feeling better and it will be time for knee exercises.

Athletes will usually need 3 - 6 months before returning to the sport and should only return when there is no pain in the LCL ligament area.

When you feel like third degree ligament injury happened it is best to seek professional help.
I read this on a Sports Medical page, so of course, take with it a grain of salt, plus this doesn't take into account if the ACL or MCL has any damage, but just a little reference for anyone interested.

Exactly! As long as they dont mention the PCL, I think we're in good shape as far as seeing a 100% RGIII on the field again!

From all the tweets, reports and speculation I've gathered, we have drawn the conclusion that New York City is NOT the capital of New York.

Swelling probably and the old injury - won't know for sure until they get in there to see first hand

How do you not know if the ACL is damaged. Seems like every other player finds out the same night or the day after the game. WTF

NFL network reporting the same thing. LCL surgery later in the week - they'll evaluate the ACL at that point.

So he may need TWO surgeries?

One now and possibly one later?

It would make sense to do a full eval and then do one complete surgery and then rehab. But I am no expert.

I'm gonna say ready by end of TC.

And I base that off absolutely nothing. Just wishful thinking

Redskins won't confirm @AdamSchefter report. Spokesman: "Well have an announcement at the appropriate time."

Well now there's some actual news and a diagnosis, hopefully there will eventually be a plan of action for how soon he can recover after surgery or surgeries.
