Well I think that's obvious, but when his knee buckles on a routine bootleg and picking up a botched snap its safe to say the chances of re injury are significantly higher than normal due to the existing injury

I would assume Mike was stating the doctors gave him this info. Mike is not qualified to make judgements like that.

    Redskins Re: How is RGIII?

WOW! This could be tough. ESPN just posted he could be out 4 to 6 months if it is just one and if both need to be reconstructed he could be out 9-12 months.

Kirk Cousins you just may get your Chance to Prove your worth next year... Lets Pray RGIII will not need to have major surgery as suggested!

All I'm saying at this point is that if there was still a risk for further injury, he shouldn't have been playing until his knee was in fact 100%.

I'm a little out of touch since the game Sunday, but I'm sure RG will be ready for the Pro Bowl in a couple weeks. I heard he has one of those chambers he can go into and come out good to go. That being said.
This is the NFL and John Gruden called it right weeks ago. Theres a reason NFL teams dont run the pistol. Heres looking at a full recovery (no matter how long it takes) and a change in the system next year.

    Hail

Yep, and that article certainly leads you to believe that was the case. I was actually hoping for no brace based on those comments. I'm glad that wasn't the case.

It seems dr. Andrews comments about being very nervous about him playing were a bad omen of things to come

What does the pistol have to do with the injuries Griffin has sustained this year?
"Washington strolled to the NFC championship, outscoring their two playoff opponents by a combined total of 48 points. Their domination was more than impressive, it was historic. The 1991 Redskins boasted the largest average margin of victory among all Super Bowl champions."

really? The pistol is responsible for what happened? Gruden's a fool if he said that.

I apologize for the assumption of a rupture. The very nature of the surgery (open vs. arthroscopic) led me to believe that this particular procedure is reserved for a ruptured ligament.

It is strictly a replacement to a failed mechanical structure within the joint structure. An allograft today is very strong and can provide excellent strength, also since it does not require harvesting it could be argued that it the recovery would be quicker. Looking at the autograft route, since he tore it when he was younger(college) they already did an autograft either patellar or hamstring. So now he has only one option if he goes this route. Patellar tendon requires taking part of the knee cap, and is the gold standard, it can be associated with longer recovery and anterior knee pain(AP had this done by Andrews so that says something). This is the stronger of the two options, so him having just one option changes the dynamic and makes an allograft potentially more viable. An autograft hamstring is where they strip one of your hamstring tendons.
When Andrews goes into repair the LCL, he'll check the laxity and see if there is any fraying/tears on the ACL. Most likely it'll be debrided and reconstructed, the LCL will heal before the ACL. Just hope this quads and muscle recover after the surgery. He has the best sports med doc in the world.
You stated a lot of the same as I. We agree on most, and where we disagree may be in terminology. By incorporation I mean revascularization of the graft. An autograft is much faster in that regard - which is why AP returned so quickly - and is also the reason it's chosen for high-level athletes. It will get stronger sooner.

There is much debate about using allografts vs autografts in young athletes. An allo can be rejected, diseased (rare) but even the process of sterilization can delay revascularization. But, you're right - his first recon limits his options. It'll be interesting to see what route the good doc takes. My money is on a hamstring autograft. Thanks for you post.
What you do for yourself dies with you. What you do for others remains.

And unfortunately, this wasn't the only article that said this. There were quite a few. Not to mention, Shanny mentioned the doctors said he was 100% w/ no risk for further injury in a PC.

I would assume he means the option. And if he does I agree with him.
