It seems like his ACL was not that bad:
http://m.nfl.com/news/0ap10000001240...on-right-knee/Robert Griffin's father confirmed to USA TODAY Sports that it was determined Wednesday that RG3 needed to have his anterior cruciate ligament repaired.
"Robert's ACL is intact, but not enough for his profession," Griffin II said, via text. "You and I could be fine. But he is an athlete. So they will replace."
I think that is why the recovery estimates are quite optimistic.

I keep hearing October..Everyone is different though RT @jameslucier: @HTTR24_7 Mort us reporting 6-8 months, that's the best yet

Snyder, Shanahan, and Andrews are locked in a room.Who wasn't telling Dan the whole truth about the knee?
LL @HTTR24_7
@AndrewLiv @shor4sure A third ACL could be career ending in that leg. Let the man heal.

6-8 months is a pretty agressive time table. Possible but aggressive.

This is what I'm waiting for too. Hopefully by Dr. Andrews himself and not Shanny. I want to hear from the person who did the surgery and saw the damage.
Man ....... its RG3 radio, tv and internet. I am about to become an Almag Redskin fan. Now i have to listen to people say he could be a has been. RG3 please get health soon. Do not come back till you are.
LL has been a good source for info on other topics...seemed to be a little off on some of this. Many of the "insiders" did
Until the Skins/Dr. Andrews give a timetable, all this other stuff is speculation.
What I read from that quote is his dad implying that the original ACL surgery from college was not done in a manner that would be done for a high-performance athlete. I don't know who his original ACL surgeon was, but it is clear that Andrews is one of, if not THE best orthopedic surgeons specializing in knee repair for pro athletes in the country. Unless we are misinterpreting what RG2 stated (I look forward to hearing a synopsis from Andrews himself), my take is provided that RG3 works his butt off in similar fashion that he did after his last ACL recovery (and we all know that the kid is just a special, driven young man like almost no other, anyone has ever seen in pro sports), he could very likely perform at an even higher level.
[QUOTE=2cents;9391373]Chris Mortenson tweeted about the surgery last night/this morning about the damage to the knee and what Dr. Andrews' assesment was, that's where the timeline come from. Now, that may change when Andrews comes out and talks, but the tweet from Mort implies that Andrews gave him the 6-8 month estimate. So I consider that the best timeline since it is coming from the Dr himself and not every other orthepedic surgeon in the country who is chiming in but hasn't seen one bit of RGIII's knee.[COLOR="Gold"]
This was last night. Andrews has said nothing at all after the surgery. So there is no definitive idea, because until Andrews got in there he did not know for sure. I want to hear his assessment now, but from him actually and not 2nd hand.
If you had to choose between warm or cold weather which would you choose?
