Jim Haslett is a horrible coach.
This is what I have been thinking, maybe it didn't matter if additional injury might happen, if they are going into fix two partially damaged ligaments, additional damage isn't that much of a difference? Or maybe he is better off with a more extensive surgery than a partial surgery??

Not sure if that was directed at me. Trying to offer reasonable alternatives to the crazy conspiracy theories out there. This might, in fact, be a rather normal injury where no one was trying to hide anything out of the ordinary.

Not likely, a weakened knee puts other ligaments at risk. Your second question, perhaps, as the ACL does not heal. Therefore, for a professional athlete, the surgeon might recommend full reconstruction for a "partial" tear.
This is what I believe.
I think they knew that his ACL was damaged, but felt that he could gut it out with the brace. I have no reason to doubt that Shanahan would continue to play him in games as important as the 2 that followed the Browns game. Once we won that one, we had a legitimate shot at the playoffs. Had we lost to the Browns, Cousins would have started the rest of the year, as there was no reason to risk Griffin's knee.
I talked to a guy at work who was at the game and he said that they didn't notice him being any more hurt than in the previous games, other than his bad stats. I told him to go home and watch his recording of it, as anyone watching it on TV was shocked at how bad his knee was. Shanahan had to hear from the guys in the booth that Griffin was in rough shape, yet did nothing to get him out of the game.

Just saw this article that he's ready to get started on rehab!!!!
Being a Redskins fan prepares you for life.
Vinny Cerrato believes he gave Jim Zorn a roster that can make the playoffs. A playoff kicker doesn't miss that kick. A playoff safety doesn't bite multiple times by a double move in the same game.Originally Posted by suze109

Gotta respect a Father who is that big of a motivator, and supporter of his Son, and we wonder why RG3 is light years ahead of his age. Yes he makes mistakes in some risky decisions but hes young, hungry competitive, and of course a rookie.
People forget the power of will and determination....I believe the mind body and spirit can overcome anything if wanted bad enough.

The guy is tough as nails... but the more I read about it the less confidence I have in him getting back for the first game in 2013. I initially thought he'd be back, but it's obvious he completely shredded his knee. The waiting game is going to be rough for us fans.... but I know the guy has the heart to make anything happen.
I think it is pretty standard. I had knee surgery in 1994 and started "rehab" the next day. Rehab started pretty early for just about everyone I know that had surgery of this nature. I am not a doctor or PT or anything but I think that while this is obviously "good" it is not going to be the difference maker in when he gets back or not.
Dane,
Since it appears you have a background in Orthopaedics (based on the detailed info in your several posts in this thread), do you think its advisable to start rehab so quickly after an extensive surgery like this or does it perhaps not give the knee enough time to "rest" postoperatively?
I laud RG3 for his work ethic, but don't want his eagerness to get rehabbing to affect the ability to heal the knee.
Let me caveat this comment with the fact that I am by no means a doctor or an expert on the subject. My Mom had her meniscus repaired about 2 years ago and the symptoms of arthritis were debilitating. She went to a specialist for the pain and they put some sort of 'gel' in her knee with a hollow bore needle (big one!). She walked out that day saying she couldn't even tell that she had the surgery in the first place. I have no idea if this would hold up in the NFL (lol) but there have to be some options available. I'm sure she didn't have the same level of care that RG3 is getting![]()
