Thread: How is RGIII?

With any athlete who has knee issues such as torn ACL's....or more....I always expect a long recovery period. Personally I do not see RGIII back on opening day next season......but I will definitely hope that I am wrong there. Just can't rush him back into the lineup to soon.....can you imagine if RGIII comes back in Sept, and promptly reinjures that knee again? And...will RGIII be ready for training camp and pre-season, or will Sept be his first potential "live" action?

A lot of questions that only time will answer.

Already tired of all the ES doctors claiming they don't think he will be ready when the season starts. Great. But it really doesn't matter. You're not qualified to say when he's gonna be ready. The doctor that performed his surgery said he would be. And if he isn't? So what. We wait until he's ready.

The article doesn't state that stem cells were used on rg3....we can infer and hope but that article didn't tell us much about our qb

True, but it does state that stem cells are being used more now to heal ACL injuries and speed up the recovery. We have no idea about what was used on RG3, but if this is what was used then its a reason for optimism and we have no reason not to believe that one of the worlds leading doctors in the area wouldn't use this new line of promising research.

Im all for stem cell use and more research hopefully the stem cells are actually doing stuff in humans that they have shown in pre-clinical animal models (btw how does a mouse get a torn ACL...do mice have knees or many ligaments i imagine if they have ligaments they are tiny??). Anywho Im all for trying stem cells and some PRP treatments and hopefully the knee responds.

Now AP is a doctor and I'm curious as to how great genetics played into his breaking his collar bone with no real impact?

While it hasn't been confirmed that RG3 had stem cells from his hip injected into his knee, the fact is that James Andrews does do that and has had success with it. The surgery was pretty intensive and long (6.5 hours). They would not discuss details, but it would be fair to view the stem cells as a possibility in this case...

Vinny Cerrato believes he gave Jim Zorn a roster that can make the playoffs. A playoff kicker doesn't miss that kick. A playoff safety doesn't bite multiple times by a double move in the same game.

BTW did Andrews perform the surgery to Merriweather's knee? And if he did what is the prognosis on when he is coming back.

Cool thing & good news: Redskins are getting daily video updates of RG3's rehab via Internet. He's already doing movement exercises on knee

From what I can tell most mouse ACL injuries actually occur outside of the pocket as opposed to inside which is a bit different than humans. When they have no throwing lanes or defenders are collapsing the pocket and they are forced to scramble, mice tend to run on all 4 legs because they are quadrupeds. This leaves more leg/knee surface area exposed in the open field for tackles. Mice look funny when they play football.

Depends on the situation, but standing upright in a pocket not seeing the hit coming is how Tom Brady was injured... Brandon Merriweather took a step and tore his ACL with no contact.

RG3 may have tore his ACL on a 4th quarter sack when he got bent backwards (according to Shanny) or it could have happened IN THE POCKET bending down to pick up a bad snap and his leg twisted out from under him because of the crappy field... with no contact...

My guess is he tore it in the 2nd quarter when he landed awkwardly before he threw his 2nd TD pass. The play on the sidelines, when he took his helmet off. After that play, his performance got worse and worse and the knee bend and bent leg in the 4th had nothing to do with an already torn knee.
