Kenny Phillips - DB - Giants The Giants are "continuing to see" if they can work out a new contract with free agent FS Kenny Phillips.
Per reporter Jason La Canfora, Phillips is unlikely to be franchise tagged ahead of Monday's deadline. With Antrel Rolle and Stevie Brown at safety, the Giants will likely only bring Phillips back if it's at their price.

Absolutely. We need to handle this soon, but we got him for a song already. I'm sure his agent wants a deal that's fair for him.

Rey Maualuga does nothing towards our issues. Which is the ability to cover TE's.

Yup, and he's very very slow. We need to add more speed to the LB pos if Fletch isn't coming back.

Wouldn't Goldson be like $9.5 against their cap if they tag him again?

I think its $6.798 million for Safeties

Michael Johnson - DL - Bengals Bengals assigned the franchise tag to RE Michael Johnson.
He's the third player to be tagged on Friday, and likely not the last. Johnson will bring home $11.2 million under the tag after notching 11.5 sacks in the final year of his rookie contract. The sides have until mid-July to work out a long-term pac, but the Bengals figure to devote most of their time before free agency toward getting free agent RT Andre Smith signed to a multi-year deal. David Carr - QB - Giants The Giants are expected to let free agent QB David Carr hit the open market.
ESPN New York reported last month that Carr was expected back as Eli Manning's backup, so it's a bit of a surprise. Perhaps the Giants are letting the market set Carr's price, or perhaps they're finally ready to go younger behind a starter on the wrong side of 30.

Greg Jennings - WR - Packers According to Profootballtalk.com, the "scuttlebutt in league circles" is that Greg Jennings is looking for as much as $12 million per year in free agency.

    For the second tag?

    EDIT: I think it's $8.15 or so if it's +20%.

According to Profootballtalk.com, the "scuttlebutt in league circles" is that Greg Jennings is looking for as much as $12 million per year in free agency.
That's down from Jennings' previously rumored desire for an annual $14 million, but still way above the $7-$9 million an AFC executive estimated he'll get to the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel. If Jennings is truly intent on breaking the $10 million barrier, he could spend a lot of time on the open market.

The Giants are expected to let free agent QB David Carr hit the open market.
ESPN New York reported last month that Carr was expected back as Eli Manning's backup, so it's a bit of a surprise. According to the New York Daily News, Carr wants to test his value, and "maybe see if he can battle for a job." We hope he's not holding his breath.

Josh Cribbs - WR - Browns Free agent Josh Cribbs' agent insists they haven't been talking to other teams.
"Our conversations to this point have been exclusively with the Browns," Cribbs' rep said. Cribbs made waves Thursday when he said his agent had been "meeting with several different teams." It's likely that at least some mild tampering has taken place, but it's doubtful the Browns will pursue the matter since they're expected to let Cribbs walk.

Anthony Spencer - LB - Cowboys The Cowboys would "love" to lock up free agent OLB Anthony Spencer before March 12, but it "looks less likely by the day" that it will happen.
Dallas, "at this point," doesn't plan to use the franchise tag on Spencer for the second straight year. The Cowboys have knocked their cap number down with their restructurings over the last couple of days, but the plan isn't to go blow it all on re-signing Spencer. He's likely to reach the open market, and the Cowboys' chances of keeping him will take a hit.
Source: CBS Sports Mar 1 - 3:15 PM

Andy Levitre - G - Bills Free agent LG Andy Levitre says the Bills haven't even made an offer to keep him.
"I haven't been offered anything yet. We're waiting around to see if something will pop up," said Levitre. "It would be in the Bills' best interests to at least throw me an offer to see if we can get this thing rolling. There's a lot of unknown for me. If the Bills offer me a fair deal, I would love to stay there." Levitre does admit that cashing in and taking the most money he can get has "crossed my mind," but he'd like that to happen in Buffalo. Levitre and Louis Vasquez are far and away the top two guards on the market.

Cullen Jenkins - DL - Free Agent The Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel says free agent Cullen Jenkins has six other suitors in addition to the Giants, who he is visiting on Friday.
None of the unknown six are said to be the Packers. Jenkins is interested in returning to the Packers, but the feeling doesn't appear to be mutual. GM Ted Thompson doesn't like signing players on the wrong side of 30, even though Jenkins would add some needed interior pass rush help. Related: Packers, Giants

Report: Tanard Jackson not a free agent
Redskins safety Tanard Jackson continues to serve a suspension that kept him off the field in 2012, and he is reportedly ineligible for reinstatement until August 31.

In the meantime, the Redskins continue to hold Jackson’s rights, Mark Maske of The Washington Post reported on Friday. According to Maske, Jackson’s one-year contract for 2012 holds for 2013, per NFL rules.

Jackson, whose suspension stems from a violation of the NFL’s substance-abuse policy, started 56 games for Tampa Bay from 2007 to 2011. His most productive season came in 2009, when he notched 71 tackles and intercepted five passes. However, he missed portions of the 2009 and 2011 seasons and nearly all of 2010 because of suspension before being suspended again last summer.

I guess we'll learn the team's feelings on Jackson shortly.
