Do the Redskins look for another punter this year. With Rocca's age and injury it might be a concern.

I don't see how you can possibly claim redundancy when Carriker stepped up and played well when Jenkins missed the 2011 season through injury and Jenkins stepped up and played well when Carriker missed the 2012 season through injury.
By very definition, there's been no redundancy. There was depth, which proved crucial in 2011 and 2012. This is what happens when you acquire through both free agency and the draft.
And our defensive line was the strength of our defense.. what are your expectations for our line? You say our resources weren't worth the production and we'll agree to disagree.
So would everyone. We'd like to address all our needs through the draft and not FA, every player. Obviously that's ideal. Unfortunately, it's not practical. And, as I've outlined, we still may yet seek a long-term solution at corner with our highest picks this year regardless of what we do in free agency.I have no idea how much Smith will cost, but I do know that it will most likely be more then what he's worth because that is typically how FA works. And quality CBs seldom make it to FA.
I would prefer to address our CBs long term through the draft not through FA.
Last year, it was argued that Garcon was overpaid, that he wasn't a #1 WR, that #1 WRs don't reach free agency, that he hasn't showcased enough to warrant the contract. His play last year proved it all wrong. He's a long-term solution at WR
I'm no personnel expect and don't pretend to be so. Frankly, none of us know whether he can be a "pro bowl stud." Who among us didn't say the same about Garcon last year? I'd say he was worth every penny. If Shanahan and his scouting + support staff believe Smith can have a similar impact -- and can similarly be had at the ripe age in the burgeoning prime of his career -- I would defend the move as a wise one.Smith isn't some All-pro/Pro-bowl stud CB. He's a good FA CB. And imo its not wise to pay 'big money' to a good CB. So, you're right Smith isn't a lateral move but he's not s huge upgrade for the money he'll cost.
Like Garcon, Smith presents intriguing potential and potentially elite athleticism for the position. Like Garcon, Smith will be overpaid given his past production. And maybe like Garcon, Smith will emerge as a true #1 player at his position. There are uncertainties in free agency, which makes it risky. We were rewarded handsomely with our belief in Garcon, and I would argue that the upside with signing Smith might be the same.
Of course, I don't actually know.
No, your posts just seem to be contradictory. For example:You seem to be inventing my position as opposed to reading my posts:
I think the signings of Garcon, Morgan, Cofield, Chester, Bowen, and Wilson were -- again, by definition -- overspending on outsiders.I'm not against FA.
On the contrary I'm all for smart FA, like the FO is currently engaged in.
Re-signing our own not overspending on outsiders.
Most signings were condemned or even lampooned at the time. Bowen was a backup, Cofield was discarded by the Giants for Rocky Bernard. Wilson was discarded by two consecutive teams, Baltimore and Seattle. Chester was a backup. Only with the benefit of hindsight are we able to deduce these "smart FA" moves that our "FO is currently engaged in."
So you were for the Garcon signing last year?Bringing in team guys like Fletch or up and coming talent like Garcon.
And I'm surprised that you'd support signing a 32-year old outsider to a big-money contract to be our defensive stalwart and lockerroom leader.
I wouldn't say you're anti-FA, per se, but it seems to me that you are against taking risks in free agency and support moves with the benefit of hindsight. Which is fine and fair for any fanSIP-
Apparently I'm anti-FA.

His name just came up and he's currently a placeholder for "Big Money Free Agent Cornerback."
I actually think it's most likely that we sign 2 free agent cornerbacks, aggressively attacking the market and signing something like both Toler and Arrington (who's good in the slot; terrible outside - just what we need).
In a similar fashion to how we approached the defensive line in 2011 and wide receiver in 2012
EDIT: also, as I posted in my previous post, Garcon was that big-money free agent in 2012. I think there are some similarities between Smith and Garcon. But with all the leaguewide interest in Smith and our cap situation, of course it's doubtful that we actually sign him.

If not Arrington then I'd like to see a guy like EJ Biggers here
