A one-year deal ain't gonna happen. Davis wants something long-term, and we'd need a longer term to push out the cap hit.

If Davis returns, it'll probably be something in the order of 3-4 years with a sizable chunk of guaranteed money and a low first-year salary. The team won't like the amount of guaranteed money they'll have to pony up--means a big cap hit to cut early, which becomes more likely for a player with a season-ending drug and injury history--but it'd be necessary to make the deal cap-friendly.

If that is the case then we move on and thank for him the memories. He doesn't deserve that kind of deal right now.

What's up with Belichick lately? He gets all stingy when it comes to Welker, but he's been dealing away draft picks like they were candy. Completing this trade would leave the Pats with only a 2nd, 3rd, and two 7ths in 2013. Far cry from the their usual tendency to stockpile picks like their lives depended on it.
