I'm not suggesting we should cut Wilson, but if we are so strapped to the point of having to cut upwards of 6 players, why are we not looking at a guy like Wilsons contract instead?..Stick 2 or 3 years onto his contract, convert his $4m salary to 75% bonus as save $2/3m 2013 cap space right way.
That type of saving is probably greater than all but ~3 other options we currently have via out-right cuts.
I don't think wilson gets cut as we can't replace him with 4m. Hall on the other hand might well be cut because we could replace him and save a little, but really not much. Chester is gone imo, though he played well he apparently has some knee issues and frankly he is our oldest lineman. Moss is also likely cut as he isn't a starter anymore and while he gave nice production as a slot/3rd it's probably put up or shut up time for some younger wide outs.
We work together and your name is Richard and I call you Dick and you hate it. You ask me to stop. I refuse, so you go to HR and they say "well he has been calling you Dick for several months so we think you set the precedence, sorry". Frustrated you ask me again." Hey man stop calling me Dick" I say "Sorry Dick, it's tradition, HR said so" Well in that scenario there is only one dick and it aint Richard. Why be that guy?
While there might be as many as six players avoiding the phone, does anyone think we'll need to cut all six to get sufficiently under the cap? Should we include players like Brandon Banks and Chris Baker in this list? I can definitely see us cutting Hall, Moss and Carriker.
Yeah, which is why I was surprised the other day when it was put out that we had not spoken to him about re-doing his contract. He's in his last year, so it needs to be an extension, but still, if he's considered a medium term contributor it seems odd to carry his +$5m cap number this year, then cut others to save $1m.
I think the team is trying very hard not to do things like this. They don't want to spend next years cap before next year's offseason.. Wilson's contract is very reasonable for a starting corner. Which mean deferring that money to another year will make his cap figure pretty high. Even if they extended him i am not sure i would expect a lot of cap savings from it. I genuinely think the team would rather cut some valuable older players rather than force bonus' into next year and beyond.
