Ed Reed has had a great career....but its quite a stretch even bringing his name up as a Free Agent.

    1. He is iconic in Baltimore and will NEVER leave barring a clash with the FO (which has not happened)
    2. His body is broken and he has several injuries that hindered his play this yr
    3. I would assume he may retire seeing his body is hurting and his best friend is retiring too.

They don't get much play here on the boards, but I would definitely be sad if we didn't sign Rocca and Sundberg. Rocca especially (I know he is getting old and it would be great to have someone who could do kickoffs as Kai isn't the best at those) has been tremendous for us and we have had so many inconsistent punters over the years.

They are behind the scenes for sure but just like last year, they will be resigned, especially Sundberg.

I'd also like to see if Sedrick Ellis could produce at DE for us... Some are calling him a bust but that just may lower his value tremendously. He's on the last year of his rookie contract with New Orleans and they have already said they will not retain him.

Not that I put much in to their draft stock but he was the 7th overall pick in 2008 and was known for his gap penetration as a 3-tech at USC.

FWIW, he and Shaun Cody were both dominant at USC... and If I haven't said it enough, I want Shaun Cody here as well.

    ---------- Post added January-18th-2013 at 12:22 PM ----------

Anyone honestly think Richard Seymour would come here for the vet min? Dude is still producing like crazy and Raiders already said they will not be retaining him... Serious question

He made $925,000 in 2012... We can more than afford that for an accomplished DLineman... He's not going to be the Fat Albert type, thats guaranteed in his production.

If they go to the SB, he retires too. He's barely hanging on right now with the neck injuries he's had.

    8. OT - JAKE LONG
Long as a must sign? Huh? Regardless of injury this yr, do you really think that one of the best LTs in the league the last few yrs would jump onto a team who 1) cant pay him a ton of money and 2) would move him to RT?

While were at it why dont we try to sign Ryan Clady and move him to RT too. The only reason why Jamaal Brown did it was bc noone wanted him as a LT, AND we traded for him so he didnt have a choice. These guys are gonna get PAID and will be starting LTs next yr.

I agree he seems very unattainable in regards to the other guys I want to bring here... But, with the releasing of Jammal Brown, restructuring of Hall, Moss, Fletcher, T. Williams, we could grab a premiere tackle. Doesn't necessarily have to be Long. I think Vollmer, Smith, Clady and Bushrod will set the market.

Actually, I took off OT from the list altogether. The two best RT's in FA, Vollmer and Smith, are going to be unattainable too.

Why bring in competition for Kai? He proved his worth...kickoffs are another story I agree, but maybe he can get better offseason if he actually works on it. A punter who can kickoff.....agreed, might be worth it.

That is my exact reason. He'll also drop a full 86 years off of the average age of this football team, lol.

    Loud and proud, OOH-RAH!

Besides Shaun Cody, Desmond Bryant is the other must on the DLine for us. He's extremely under-the-radar. I'll post some notes from impending DLine FA's who fit the 3-4

Richard Seymour (OAK) - DE/DT - With Seymour's deal voided, one of the league's most scheme- diverse defensive linemen will become available. Even at 33 and coming off an injury that sidelined him for nearly half of the 2012 season, there will be a strong market for Seymour, a rare bright spot on the Raiders over the past few seasons. With leadership and experience, Seymour improved a young defensive line and built the unit into something which the rest of the defense could be built around. Though he'll be staring almost exclusively at short- term deal, expect him to sign one with a playoff contender.

Desmond Bryant (OAK) - DT - Receiving more playing time as the season went on, Bryant was an impressive under- the- radar player for the Raiders who will definitely be one of the higher priorities for Oakland this offseason. Though his statistics and highlight reel don't jump off the page, his solid run defense and pass- rushing ability will be rewarded this offseason by Oakland as the team looks to shed veterans (and more importantly, their salaries) and retain young players with starter potential.

Randy Starks (MIA) - DT - Starks has played everywhere from DE to NT for the Dolphins effectively over the past few seasons. Even at 29, Miami will approach Randy Starks about signing an extension and keeping their run- stopping base of Starks and Paul Soliai together. Impeding negotiations may be the status of the 6 other starters set to hit unrestricted free agency including Jake Long, Reggie Bush, Brian Hartline, and Sean Smith. Prioritizing will be crucial as will re- signing a couple before the start of the new league year.

If he wins the kicking job? I'd say the chances of there being a kicking competition are slim to none.

The kickoffs thing is overrated anyway. That'd be way down on my list of worries this offseason. If a kickoff specialist that could punt well fell into my lap, then fine, but I wouldn't lose sleep over it

I like Shaun Cody, I watch a lot of Texan games. IMHO, we don't really need him. Might as well just keep Cofield at the nose.
