I'd also like to see Martellus Bennett signed to complement Fred Davis, while also keeping Logan Paulsen as well
People are throwing out names thinking they will come here to be a backup. Bennett had a deent yr in nY. I guarentee he wont come to be a backup or the blocking TE (which I would rather Paulsen anyway). You can choose between bennett and davis, but thinking we'll sign both is unreasonable and a waste of our limited cap space, especially when paulsen showed he is a more then capable blocker and pass catcher.

    I'm in favor of this.

Of course, we'll have to have a discussion on who is and is not attainable. Guys like Clady and Long are clearly not attainable, but what about that next cost tier down, the Vollmer, Smith, Albert, Beatty group?

I suppose we'll have to eliminate two categories of players: players we cannot afford, and players who are likely to receive the franchise tag (or are RFAs).

In light of that, I propose we eliminate the following:
    Ryan Clady - OT, cost
    Jake Long - OT, cost
Jairus Byrd - S, franchise tag
William Moore - S, franchise tag

I'm sure there are others, but I think those 4 are definitely out of the running.

You've had a negative comment for almost everything proposed. No offense bro.

It is certainly feasable. Bennett is a situational player and works best in two TE sets. Paulsen is a FA as well. I like Paulsen as well but you can never have too many options on offense... especially when I said drafting Kelce would work too... I wouldn't keep Paul on this team unless they feel his "gunner" on ST is too valuable to let go.

This is RG3's team. You will see more wanting to be here instead of looking for the massive pay day than you would have in the past. Book it! Also, we are a contender...

i totally agree. Some of these names are pipe dream at best. Now if the cap penalty were to be lifted, then a maybe....but even so I would still think those tackles would refuse to move to the right side

Yes sir, great idea! Appreciate you doing the whole OP as well, bro... Good work!

Just like last year, we couldn't get the Vincent Jackson's of the world but we managed to get Josh Morgan and Garcon... I can't stress this enough... there are always ways around the cap as long as the player is willing to put it down on paper. Garcon's contract is the prime example.... T. Williams, Fletcher (if he comes back), Hall, Moss will restructure. Freddy D. and Orakpo will take decent contracts. Guys like Rob Jackson will take reasonable contracts. There will be room for some decent playmakers.

Also, we should probably eliminate Loadholt. I like him as a player and think he's a good OT, BUT, he's too big and not a fit for the ZBS.

Giants | Could let Kenny Phillips walk
There is a sense that the New York Giants will let impending free-agent SS Kenny Phillips leave via free agency.

Packers | Would like to bring Brad Jones back
The Green Bay Packers would like to re-sign impending free-agent LB Brad Jones this offseason.

Patriots | Aqib Talib not commenting on future
New England Patriots impending free-agent CB Aqib Talib was asked twice if he wanted to remain with the team next season. He was non-committal both times, simply saying he's enjoyed his time with the Patriots.

Lions | Cliff Avril thinks he can play in 3-4 (just for S's and G's)
Detroit Lions impending free-agent DE Cliff Avril said he believes he can play in a 3-4 defensive alignment. "Honestly, I can play in both systems," Avril said. "You know, I played linebacker in college. My senior year is when I pretty much moved to a full-time D-end, so I feel I can play both systems. Rushing is rushing. Either you're standing up or you're in a three-point (stance). Rushing the quarterback is the same thing to me, so I definitely feel I can do both."

Packers | Probably will allow Greg Jennings to walk
The Green Bay Packers probably will allow impending free-agent WR Greg Jennings to leave via free agency this offseason because they have other capable players at the position.

Packers | Greg Jennings may not be heavily pursued
Green Bay Packers impending free-agent WR Greg Jennings may not be pursued heavily if he hits the free-agent market this offseason because some believe he will not produce as much without QB Aaron Rodgers and head coach Mike McCarthy. Jennings will be looking for his third contract and some teams are hesitant to pay big money for a free-agent receiver looking for a third contract.

Dolphins | Would like to being back Chris Clemons (Should be targeted, but haven't seen him mentioned here, +4.5 on PFF, and played more than any Safety in the league at SS)
The Miami Dolphins have indicated that they would like to re-sign impending free-agent SS Chris D. Clemons this offseason.

Eh, that sounds like a lot of work, lol. I'm willing to do it... maybe we should leave it as is, then once we hear anything about tags and tenders we'll start leaving guys out. That'll determine a lot of what will happen via free agency and we likely won't know many of those answers until the 11th hour... when this thread will be the center of the universe.

    EDIT:

But what I will do, is take off the obvious pipe dream guys and determine top targets by mentions by majority in here. So give me about an hour and then let me know what you guys think the rankings should be by position.

Looks like the RT market is getting deeper by the day...

Impending free agent RT Gosder Cherilus "might not be" in the Lions' plans for 2013.Detroit has 2011 first-round pick OT Riley Reiff waiting in the wings for a starting spot, and veteran LT Jeff Backus is under contract for next season. The Lions are also well over the salary cap. Cherilus, 28, graded out as Pro Football Focus' No. 2 right tackle in the league in 2012, excelling as a pass blocker. Jan 20 - 12:02 PM

Lions | Gosder Cherilus might not be back
    Mon, 21 Jan 2013 14:01:02 -0800

Detroit Lions OT Gosder Cherilus may not be in the team's plans for the 2013 season.

Wow, you would think the Lions would cut Backus and sign Gosder

I know, that's huge! I don't think we'd have a chance at him regardless and I think he's more of a power Tackle.... but it at least makes the market deeper.

Sounds like Tennessee Titans are going to release Jordan Babineaux, SS.... I only post this due to our current "back 4" situation...

He's a starter but his role has dimnished a ton at 30 years old. I personally think he'd be worse than Doughty but thought i'd share...

Do you guys think Moss will come back? He had just a brilliant year. Playing in the slot, he was fantastic, made big plays, plenty of TDs. I just want him to come back one more year, I think hes more valuable then any of our WRs except Garcon.

Aquib Talib (spelling) in my opinion, is better then Lewis, better than most of the Dbs that would fall to us in the draft, and better then a lot of guys on our roster not named Hall. And he might even be better than Hall. He had some character issues, but honestly, the guy can flat out play. I think he would be a bargain too. Maybe Im wrong, though. But if NE lets him walk, Id love to get him.

I still cant figure out why we let Landry walk, our safety's are bad, but Merriweather may be the cure for that if he stays healthy. Regardless, Id love to get Byrd, even though I know its almost an impossbility, but a boy can dream I guess.
As long as we address the DB/S and Right side of the OL in the draft, Ill be happy.

I actually dont have a problem cutting Fred Davis, I think Paulsen played well this year and comes at a discount. I know Davis is a beast and all, but he lacks blocking skills and he also seems to not be as good as the money he might want paid.

Check out the OP when you get a sec fellas. I think we are close to a consensus on all but WR. (I literally shot from the hip on that one and it's my opinion, lol)

Also, Godser is going #1 at RT when he is released. That just made it move.

If we could make it work it'd be awesome. Especially if Robert isn't back for week 1, we're going to need a pocket for Captain Kirk.

He will have to restructure but I think he will play out his years as our slot, #3-4 guy.

Woah nelly, Lewis is up and coming. Aqib is established... main difference is Lewis can stay on the field, and doesn't bring the baggage... Also, you can guarantee he will come cheaper.

If you can't figure out why we let Landry walk, I can't help you there. He critized our staff and was all about himself instead of getting fixed.

So what are your suggestions? Paulson is what he is, a blocker with decent hands who filled in nicely, but does not have near the playing ability Freddy D has when on the field.
