I think he would break the bank, though. But, you're right, if he's willing to get paid like a guy coming off of an injury-filled season he's a great option.

It is certainly feasable. Bennett is a situational player and works best in two TE sets. Paulsen is a FA as well. I like Paulsen as well but you can never have too many options on offense... especially when I said drafting Kelce would work too... I wouldn't keep Paul on this team unless they feel his "gunner" on ST is too valuable to let go.

This is RG3's team. You will see more wanting to be here instead of looking for the massive pay day than you would have in the past. Book it! Also, we are a contender...
Bennett started 16 games this season while having a career year.

Last year he signed a 1-year $2.5 Million contract so I don't see any way he takes $1.75 to be a backup somewhere else.

One thing I would like to argue is for Knox to be higher on the list than most people have him.

He has had injury problems, but prior to them he was quite a dangerous young receiver for the Bears. If he can stay healthy I think he would be the perfect compliment to a #1 as the #2 on the outside.

The guys I would watch most would be him Amendola, Hartline, and Collie, I think these guys should not be too terribly expensive due to some injury and/or production problems but I think they could help fill roles for the offense.

Your top 2 are interesting, having really thought about either one in FA. Barden is a huge target at 6"6, hasn't really emerged yet, has one big game in his career but the Giants haven't really given him opportunities. Avery would be a real deep threat -- something that Aldrick Robinson hasn't established himself as yet.

EDIT: And I would agree on Barden, who I believe is 6'6" tall, that he hasn't gotten a chance. New York loves to run in the red zone and use TE's and Fullbacks in pass patterns. They haven't really thrown a lot of fades in the red zone since Plax went to jail. Maybe they drafted him to turn into another Plax... just because he isn't Plax doesn't mean he can't contribute elsewhere though.

I mean, weren't they forced to start Cruz because of injury? That worked out pretty well for them.

I share your excitement, actually oddly I might be more into free agency than the draft -- probably because FA comes first and it will effect how we approach the draft. Also, I don't think its far fetched that a year or two of tinkering puts us in conversation for the Superbowl, I haven't felt that way since the 90s. Part of what intrigues me is how their targets are often not who we project in advance. Most of us weren't thinking for example about Bowen or Cofield. Most of us last year were zoned in on Vincent Jackson as opposed to Pierre Garcon.

On this thread, people are doing a nice job of covering all basis so some of our targets are likely to be correct.

LOL, corrected it, no Freudian slip there, but if Barden has that going for him too, more power to him. Redskins Cheerleaders might appreciate.

I think Cruz was about losing Steve Smith in FA, i recall he had a big preseason the year before so they liked him. To your point, yeah Barden could be the real deal. My only question is they went with Randle mostly as their #3 WR as the season progressed as opposed to Barden

Dolphins have a lot of cap room and WR is their top priority so I doubt they let Hartline go without a fight. Amendola I thought about, injury prone, but clutch, obviously he killed the Redskins this year. Wonder though about the Rams since they like the Dolphins probably target WR as their top need along with O line, doubt they let him go easy.

Collie I can see. Based on his production and injury, it kind of reminds me some of a Josh Morgan type signing. Found an article though that talked about his multiple concussions and suggesting he should retire.

As I said in a much earlier thread, Ramses Barden should be the one WR we go after in the offseason. He will come cheap, and be very inexpensive. And yet, he has so much upside its scary. The Giants have no idea what they have/had in their WR's. I knew Cruz was going to be a monster the first time I seen him in a preseason game, I knew Nicks was going to be amazing, annd in all honesty, Manningham (whose gone), Hixon, and now Randle are all good WR's. They have some of the best WRs in the game. But, Barden could be better than all of them. Insnaely tall, ridiculously LONG arms, decent route running (could be better) and above average hands and speed. This guy could be like Cris Carter and Randy Moss all in one.

    Edit:
The Giants dont know how to use their WR's, or at least, it takes them a while to figure it out and they are losing a sure fire star in Barden. Look at this guys college stats. In his sophmore year he caught 42 balls for 824 yards and 5 TDs for a 19.6yd/reception average. But then, his junior year he blew up, 57 catches for 1467 yards and 18 tds for a 25.7yds/reception. His senior year was more possession then his crazy junior year but still super effective 67 balls for 1257 yards and 18 tds.

This guy is 6'7". The Giants have no idea what they have.

I agree. I think he would be a great pickup here. But unlike you i think he will cost an arm and a leg to get.

It would be nice if we got him. And the Giants are VERY VERY deep at the WR position. He could very well be a huge pickup for us.

With that being said tho...i dont think WR should be a top priority...if we get one great if not im happy with what we have. This has to be a make or break year for Hank tho. He needs to have a big season if he wants to be here next year.

I think I rather roll with Dez Briscoe then pick up Barden.

I was basing it off of the fact that he stated in his own words that he is willing to take less money... Now if that is to stay with the Giants, I don't know... But he stated this in late December IIRC.

Regardless, it looks like Coughlin is still developing him and will retain him for 2013 at the least

He said he wanted to play with his brother Michael, who is a FA this year as well. pretty sure Michael is gonna resign with the BUCs, and the BUCs could try to sign Bennett.

That is what I was trying to say. I have a feeling that they wanted Barden for a specific reason. All in all, they haven't changed their offense much since 2007 when they beat the Pats in the Super Bowl and used a lot of Plaxico. I think they saw a lot of Burress when they picked him and he just hasn't filled the roll that they wanted him to fill.

I also think he'd struggle running the routes that a slot guy typically runs because of his size.

I could be totally wrong, but that's just what I think.
