I have no idea how retiring works in terms of cap. I would assume, but am not sure, that the contract would simply void, and he wouldn't count anything against the cap, even with guaranteed money left.

A player retiring is treated just the same as a player being released from a cap perspective. With London there would be a $2.8M dead cap hit and I think we would save $3.4M.

You are right about the number of years.

That last part, I think the players union would have a field day with. Sure, the Pats and Brady get away with that, but not us.

"Multiple sources connected to the team" tell the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel that they would be "surprised" if Jermichael Finley isn't back with the Packers in 2013.
Finley's future in Green Bay has been swirling in the wind all offseason. Once the season ended, coach Mike McCarthy praised his tight end for his play after the bye week, but recently the organization has been "torn" on the matter while Finley has said he's not willing to take a pay cut. We'll know his immediate future by March 27, when a $3 million roster bonus is due.

Not exactly, when a player retires, the team does not have to release the player at that time. They can put the player on the reserved/retired list for at least 1 year.

Maybe but the player still comes off the books if he retires before June 1 and any dead cap is assessed. If he retires after June 1 the dead cap hit comes off next years cap.

FREDDY D for those numbers? If that's truly what he's looking for that's a complete steal. Of course you give it to him. I mean, I would push for 2-3 years but it's obvious if he wants that contract he wants a year to prove himself then sign a deal he's earned. Hell yes I would not even hesitate to sign him for 1 year/$2 million. Is there anyone on here that would say no to that?

Right? I'd love it personally and that's about what I would pay him. I said I would start at $2.5 and go no higher than $4. So fair is fair.

That would garuntee Ryan Swope in round two though.
