Just for reference Louis Delmas carried a -1.6 rating on PFF. Corey Lynch would be a good target as would Glover Quin. Also there are medical issues with Delmas

Cb's Shield, Porter,Talib and Mckelvin are oung cb's i'm interested in in (pick two).Potrter and then draft "Xavior" the cb out of Florida State would be nice. it would give give us two big cb's that can hit and are fast enough to cover most wr's in the league.Byrd would also be sweet for safety but theres only soo much money to go around and we need to at least get a mlb in training to split time with fletcher if not out right take over for him.I like Shields from Green Bay as well but like i said theres only soo much money to go around.Allen will have to earn his pay check bigtime this year in creativity for the Redskins to get the players they need to take the next step. Also you don't want to mess with the team too much either, Hall will have to decide how much he is willing to play for, or should i say how little.I know that Shanahan wants speed on the inside to learn Fletchers spot,Creativity with signing bonuses and such maybe the only way if its even possible.I think Merriweather is defintely worth another look and Jackson at least a look. Phillips and Merriweather would be a U revival at the Safety positions.Brandon Albert would be sweet to put him next to Montgomery, I know people will say i am nuts putting him next to Chester. But in putting him next to Montgomery and Williams would give us a bigger stronger nastier oline on the inside and out.Yes, Kory L. did great last year and should be brought back but as good as he was Albert would be that much better . Ryan Harris would be a good Rt for us, He has played with Shanahan before. Resigning Fred Davis and J Cook would give us 2 targets at TE that can go deeper and faster than we have had before. Cook is 6'5 as is Paulson but also has some speed to go with it. Cheaper than a wr and i think we have some talent that with another year of RG3 they can make even more noise.Mlb is a big question, theres no big mlb coming out this year(It just makes me angry) When i think of what we could have had. When the whole discussion began on takeing Landry i was with it at first. But, as time went along i changed my mind completely. This other guy was such a rare talent,. The kind of guy that comes around just once in a while. Of coarse i mean Patrick Willis the mlb out of Miss St. i believe that he was the best mlb to come out sense Ray Ray. And was faster than Ray as well.We all know who we took. All i can do is shake my head now and tremble in anger. Maybe the mlb out of North Carolina. don't know. this would be the perfect world of moves for all of these moves and probably out of the realm of possiblity, but anyways i had to take a shot HTTR forever.

I like Quin too but if we are riding on PFF, apples to apples, Quin's PFF rating was mediocre, the 16th ranked free agent safety. I like PFF but their ratings are sometimes curious, according to them for example Landry who is going to the pro bowl had a bad year, and M. Williams played better. Heck M. Williams according to them was better than Ed Reed too.

for those curious if it hasn't been posted here are the rankings of corners

another one showing off stats of some of the free agent corners, and salaries of the free agent corners last year. They theorize that Keenan Lewis will get 7-8 mill a year.

maybe you are having selective memory.. but the problems with Rogers' time here wasn't just lack of turnovers. ALL of the opponents that played us knew Rogers could not catch the ball so the QBs felt very comfortable throwing the ball into great coverage by Rogers. QBs knew it was going to be either a big play by their WRs or just an incompletion. In my memory there were too many instances in which WRs made big plays in critical parts of the game with Rogers drapped all over them. I do not have a single memory in which I remember Rogers makings the QB pay for challenging him.
Now Rogers has better support due to much better pass rush than he had in Washington and I think that is hiding some of his flaws but there is no way I would want Rogers back here at top CB money which is what Rogers wanted at the end of the day...

Yeah, I'm not sure if Keenan Lewis and Kenny Phillips will come come as cheaply as some have suggested. Though I don't know who will be willing to pay Phillips the big bucks with his injury history. Maybe if they link pay to playing time. Also surprised to see Cary Williams' numbers...not great, though a lot of PDs.
Poor Doughty ain't even listed...
Thanks, am assuming they can find a way to fit that salary in. It would be about Pierre Garcon's contract last year, when they were handcuffed with the same cap penalty. What to me is the kicker about Lewis is he's young and would take some pressure off of the draft where they wouldn't have to force a CB pick and can go more easily BPA. Also, if you can use the 2nd rounder on safety there should be ample choices, one or more of these guys should be there at #2: Swearinger, Elam, Reid, Thomas, Jefferson, McDonald.
Here are Kiper's top 5 safeties

Agree, young emerging corners don't come cheap. But I'd rather them go after one emerging corner than lets say a few older role players ala C. Griffin types. If we are building for the future building a young strong secondary IMO is part of the drill. Lewis I doubt comes cheap but IMO is worth it. As for Phillips, he should be interesting -- safeties mostly don't get paid like corners -- factor that with arguably a decent safety free agent class and his injury history -- he might not break the bank. But don't see him as a bargain basement type either. He's be perhaps what I'd label a medium level free agent contract perhaps similar to Josh Morgan, though I suspect he gets paid more.

Looks like we're working out a CFL lineman.
Anyone remember anything about him from Oklahoma?Originally Posted by Zac Boyer

Simmons has workouts with 5 other teams, including the Dolphins and is being looked at primarily as a LG.

I don't think Lewis would come "cheap", but I think he will come for less than the "top 3" guys in FA at that position at the moment. Personally, like I said earlier in the thread, I think we should do something similar to Garcon where we may give him a bit more money than he may seemingly be "worth" now but probably less money than if we were paying for an established "Number 1" CB.
Thanks for all the info, good stuff there. I have no problem shelling out money for a corner, particularly an up and comer like Lewis. I wouldn't be opposed to Phillips outright, but I feel you're right that we target safety in the draft, though please not another guy better suited as an in-the-box safety. I'm pretty tired of carrying 5 safeties with only one that can (or can't in Madieu's case) play FS. I know they tried with Tanard and Williams, but it's just painful to watch poor coverage and big plays against us.
The Hall situation should answer some of the questions about what we can swing in FA. Wouldn't be surprised to see a tier one corner (possibly safety instead) brought in as you've suggested.
