It's funny how people blame the govt for spending money they don't have, yet when spending money the skins money like the govt which isn't their own they do the same thing we cant afford these wishlist we can hardly afford to resign our own guys.

A RB like Bush is not going to break the bank in FA, at his age. I'd kill to have him in this backfield on passing downs, and on ST's. He's at the perfect place in his career to become a really, really good role player and extend his career while getting paid a decent amount.

You're seeing a lot of this because after this offseason, when our cap penalty gets wiped away, we're going to have a large amount of cap space due to our smart roster management and huge use of the draft these last two offseasons. So as long as we keep year #1 manageable with our current penalty, we can sign one big name, most likely. Like last year with Garcon.

Agreed. I'm a huge fan of Bush coming to DC... I won't hold my breath on Helu and he doesn't come close to what Reggie can do... get Kelce in the draft and opposing defenses would have nightmares before they even played us.

Baltimore Ravens impending free-agent FS Ed Reed will likely hit the market this offseason. The New England Patriots appear to be a favorite to sign Reed if he tests free agency, as head coach Bill Belichick is a big fan of his.

    Gracias,

Normally I am categorically against signing an aging FA. But to me Ed Reed is more then just a player. He's a player that is actually a leader, he's a player that has expressed the desire to coach, he imo is largely responsible for the Ravens secondary being a productive unit despite the loss of Ladarius Webb (who attributes his own development to Ed Reed).
Ed Reed is one of the smartest football players in the game, he's one of the best S to play the game.
He knows how to work, he knows how to study film, he knows how to take car of himself. He's a pro.
He imo adds more then merely solidifying the huge gaping hole at FS. He would be a leader in the secondary and on defense and imo will raise the level of the young members of the secondary we hopefully draft.

Ed Reed would be at the very top of may FA safety list.

Look at this INT below. All film study. He must have spotted a tendency and he pounced. He starts sprinting towards Chad Johnson and intercepts the ball instride..sick!...

I know its the longest of longshots. But, I would love to have Ed Reed wearing Burgundy and Gold.
Heck, I'd even chip in to pay for him.

Ed Reed would immediately become my #1 priority in FA if he became available. Like you say dg, he wouldn't just be another aging star FA leaving his home team. He'd be like signing London Fletcher all over again, but at safety, and better.

Jared Cook is the worst blocking TE in the league, not exactly what we look for in our WR/TE's. Give me Keller, Davis or draft.

I'm not for it, but I certainly would not oppose it. A Meriweather/Reed backfield would definitely keep the offenses humble... His heart is in Bmore, which I can certainly understand but he is a high character guy, no question about that. And the man can ball out like no other FS i've ever seen.... Sadly, I wish we were having the conversation about how our FS (Sean Taylor) is better than Reed.

Not a fan of bringing in Reed. Too old and too many injuries for me. Would rather draft our FS.

It wouldn't have to be either or or.
Sign Ed Reed and draft a S

    ---------- Post added January-28th-2013 at 03:38 PM ----------

Of course it all depends on cost.
But, I would re-sign our guys like Rob Jack, Fred Davis, Baker, Paulsen.
    Hope London Fletcher returns.
    Sign Ed Reed.
    Draft the rest.

For me its more giving him the type of money he's going to want. I doubt we will be able to offer him more than the Ravens will...but idk.

Ed Reed is kind of in position to be Dawkins all over again--an elite player at the position who is also a leader and a man who inspires the other men on his defense, that leaves the place where his "heart" is for a decent amount of money, let go by his successful team (obviously the Ravens are more successful than the Eagles) who then regretted watching him play out the rest of his career at a high level for someone else.

Reed isn't the kind of guy who goes to a new team and then just milks them for a paycheck because he left his home. He'd play his ass of here if we could afford him.

Keller's potential is worth looking into. At a reasonable price, this could be a coup. Sanchez/Jets entire offensive philosophy has really throttled him. Even on a per game basis, Keller has outperformed Davis. Season averages look like this with no health issues:

    Keller 54 rec 639 yards 4 TDs
    Davis 40 rec 509 yards 3 TDs

Not a huge difference, but a positive difference nonetheless.

I'm sitting here drinking a Hamm's Special Light picturing Reggie Bush lining up in the pistol formation next to RG lll.
Now I'm asking myself is this a Vinnie move? I guess the answer is if we can get him at a decent price we do it. We'd be able to line him up all over the place.
If we can fit him in let's get him.

I think the common misconception of a 'Vinny move" is the fact that he went after the so-called "top players at the position" in his mind which were clearly aging or way past their prime and handing them a contract which would have afforded 3 or 4 up and coming stars... and watching them stink up the joint...

Reggie Bush is still young, extremely talented... I've seen no drop in performance and in fact he's added to his resume. It's one thing if the Dolphins are just looking to get rid of him and throw him in the trash heap, and then we go dumpster diving and offering some atrocious contract, but that's not the case. Dolphins fans do not want to see this man go at all. He is a piece that defensives need to game plan for. If the contract is set for a split back and not an everydown back, it's a great move and not even close to what i'd call a gamble.

When I see articles from PhinPhanatics titled, "Dolphins Must Sign Reggie Bush", you know there's reason behind it. Helu... more like, goodbye!

In fact, Bush and Long are the only FA's I hear about coming out of Miami... I rarely see mention of Sean Smith, Hartline, Starks, Clemons, Fasano, etc.
