Absolutely zero interest in Avery, he's stayed healthy for one single season, and is 28. That speed isn't going to last forever and it's about all he's got when healthy.

Giants released Chris Canty earlier today. Would he be a fit here, and would there be any interest in him for our DL? He played DT in New York, he could play DE for us.

If I recall correctly the Skins were targeting Canty before signing Haynesworthless. That was when the Skins were running the 4-3 before Shannahan. I like Canty and have followed him since college since I am a UVA fan. If the Skins were going to get thim I think he could add great depth as I believe he has experience in the 3-4 and 4-3. It would come down to money and priority. I would love for the Skins to pick him up but would personally much rather have that money go to improving the secondary and adding to the OLine.

With Bowen ($5.5 million), Carriker ($4 million) and Cofield ($6.45 million), we already have invested more resources than we can probably afford to the position group.
I doubt there's a chance in hell that we'll sign Canty, at least without releasing one of the aforementioned guys. Also, 2013 is Jarvis Jenkins' breakout year.

On another note, I'd love to see Danny Amendola in a Redskins uni. If he escapes the franchise tag, he checks off every attribute Shanahan looks for in a free agent.
That we're looking to load up on offense is an interesting development. And not all that surprising really, as it's looking more and more like the future of the NFL is headed towards crowning super bowl champions that can put up 40 points on any given night.
Wouldn't surprise me to see us look to add a speedy 3rd down back with one of our more 'premium' picks in the draft. After the rookie success of Morris, I'd imagine the coaching staff sees running back as one of the predominant positions where 1st-year success can be expected (as opposed to WR or safety). Can't see us spending valuable cap dollars on a free agent RB though, not really Shanahan's M.O.
Amendola, Cook, and a right tackle (Polian seems to love a lot of the impending free agent tackles) would make for I think a highly successful free agency splurge on the offensive side of the ball.
Saw Demetress Bell was released by the Eagles. We had some interest in him last year if I remember.

Check the OP. I am updating as much as I can and certainly I am updating the rumors section. That's one of them. Just the extra effort we put in here during the offseason... when there is NOTHING else to do, lol.
If you see anything please post it.

I see Corey Lynch is flying under the proverbial radar... I like it.

Or Lynch. That's good news. I don't know if he is going for big names or a if he is going for who he anticipates to hit the market. But I am not dissappointed at all.

thanks for posting that for us, Dogof War1... that was very helpful. PFF is 10x what espn is. I think it's more the big names and trying to attract attention... but like I said... I am not mad about it

if he isn't franchised or signed long term apparently New England is all over that action like a Canuck on a Maple Bar.

Wouldn't you rather go for Glenn Dorsey or Tyson Jackson though? I think there is one spot open (assuming Carriker comes back 100% or close to it) and that's Golston. We already have Merling and Worthington and a few others for competition as well. Canty would be an upgrade from them, and he's had a 3-4 defense under his belt... but I might take a shot on one of the younger cats going into their second contracts.

He was the great unknown last year. I think this years OT class in FA and the draft is so deep that he'd be lucky to sign anywhere during the initial waive of FA.

I guess I'm alone with this opinion, but I really like our offensive unit.
They're young and highly productive. People forget but the offense was 1st in rushing, 4th in scoring and 5th in yards.
That's freakin awesome. Especially when you consider it was year 1 in what amounts to a brand new offense with a rookie QB who played without the top WR and top TE for the better part of the season and saw his receptions leader playing through injury towards the end of the season.
Imo the passing game is only going trend upwards as the unit builds chemistry and the passing attempts increase.
I think people are down on the passing game because of the production stats of the WRs.
But, people need to realize that we had the 3rd fewest passing attempts in the NFL.
On top of that Kyle shuffled WRs often and spread the targets around.
Consequently no 1 WR put up huge numbers because they didn't have huge targets but we had 4 WRs with over 500 yards.
Our top 4 WRs have good YAC. Moss, Garcon and Hankerson are all rated 41st or higher by Football Outsiders which makes them all starters. The lowest ranked Morgan rates just outside a #2 starter.
Another thing to consider is in the Denver/Houston Shanahan/Kubiac WCO typically only the #1 WR puts up huge numbers. The other WRs are complementary players.
So I don't share the worry or apparent disdain over the current WRs corps.
I agree with that but Its also that Hankerson hasn't proven much and might have 1-2 years left if he doesn't develop or show more. Robinson is a one trick pony at this point.. Morgan is out of contract after next year. Moss is aging and doesnt have long. If there are young upgrades that we can draft or get at a reasonable price long term FA we need to look at that for both improvement next year and future years.
What WR or even TE outside of Garçon can we say deserves and can plan on being here in 2 years?
The real question is whether we could negotiate a longterm contract before the trade. If we could, I'd easily give up a 3rd for him. If we had our 1st round pick I would even consider trading our 2nd.
Because of his baggage, his contract, and our lack of a #1 and cap space, I think it's a moot discussion anyway. It's like dancing sugarplums in my head though.
Tyson Jackson is a Free agent??
What WR or even TE can you bring in from the outside that will definetely be an upgrade?
This is Hankerson's second season he was injured his rookie season and shared time this season. He's only had played in 20 games total. I think it very premature to write him off based off a slow start. Robinson is the 4th WR a developmental player. Yes Morgan is out of his contract after next year. True Moss is older but you can't say he wasn't productive.
I'm gonna give this unit a chance to develop before playing musical chairs.
You know DG, I'm sort of back and forth on this issue. Outside of FS, and TE, I'm comfortable with every starter on the team (including Morgan/Hankerson). My one caveat would probably be that Orakpo's health concerns me, but that concern would be much reduced if Jackson returns. With that in mind I'm cool with whatever this FO decides draft-wise.
So, I can understand going WR early because of Morgan and Moss, same as I can understand ILB and SS because of Fletcher and Meriweather. Yes we have K. Robinson and Bernstine (just as we have A. Robinson and Hankerson), but they're still developing and therefore are somewhat unknown quantities. Similar sentiment can be applied to tackle, corner, TE, running back, etc. Essentially, I'm ok with even more potential added to any of those positions, and WR is no exception.
