Every team does the same thing Rufus. Some times it works, some times it doesn't. Like I said, if he works out, awesome, we got him for cheep. If not, oh well, at least he was cheap.

But I trust my FO and HC, who have 3 rings between them themselves. There is more than one way to rip a jaw bone off of someone.

I'm choosing to maintain team continuity to reduce the chance the on the field production slips. We were a 10-6 team as much as possible I want to maintain or improve from that. I don't want to make moves several disruptive moves unknown outcome.
I all things being equal I would rather keep continuity from our 10-6 team with favorable contracts
that allow another year the players we drafted and developed to rise to contributing and starting roles.
The draft is irrelevant to deciding if you want to keep Hall vs, say, signing Sean Smith. Like it or not that cap is going to be spent, whether it's this year or next.

That limited sample size is not enough to erase the previous season of poor play that made him available as a 3rd tier FA signing.

In my eyes if there was any saving to be had by releasing Meriweather he would be a candidate.
Not arguing that it erases the previous season of poor play (despite that he was playing in a defense that didn't use him correctly). Saying that until he proves otherwise here, he gets the benefit of the doubt.

That's the problem in the here and now- we don't save much by cutting him, so we likely won't. Though I still would if we could sign anybody else.

Wow, what a great day. Some tough decisions are ahead but we got back some of our key guys. Brings on a whole new meaning to "Offseason Champs".

Off-topic, but I just came across this fascinating stat:

"Wide receiver Pierre Garcon ended up second in Yards Per Route Run at 2.93, putting him ahead of each of the wide receivers who made the Pro Bowl in the NFC."

Wouldn't surprise me. He wants more than we can offer. I like him, but it's not necessary that he come back.

I was afraid of that. Pittsburgh is looking for linebackers and Bazooka Joe is now there as the ST coach. I hope that this report is just speculation however

So Meriweather played good in the eagles game (only had the opportunity to play in 1 game) but you want to cut him already because he was bad in NE and Chicago? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, Lets wait until he plays poor in washington before we get rid of him. Meriweather was playing in the Bears Tampa 2 at FS that is why he played poor. What a lot of you fail to realize is sometimes a player plays poorly because he's in a TERRIBLE system that doesn't fit his skill. Meriweather has always been a SS but his previous teams forced him to play FS which is not a strength. When we had Laron Landry we had him playing FS when ST died and he was average we moved him back to SS and he was a STUD again.

If we're stuck with him next year, you'll see what kind of player he is. Unfortunately.
Belichick is OVERRATED, Tom Brady has people thinking Belichick is some genius. He lucked up and drafted Tom Brady that's why he looks like a genius. This guy picked up Ocho it was a fail picked up Albert it was a fail has drafted so many bums recently and they just got outplayed by the ravens a team we beat. Belichick is a good coach but he's overrated, people make it seem like everything belichick does is right.

Of course its relevant. You commit money to Sean Smith and to his position group which precludes drafting a younger, cheaper and possibly better player at his position without creating redundancy and waste.
Im not sure why you keeping that the cap will be spent?

Crying about the possibility of cutting a castoff SS to save money as opposed to cutting players that actually contribute sounds dumb to me too.

I don't think anyone's crying about it, but when he played (granted it was a really limited sample) he rejuvenated the secondary. Until he proves not to be, he's an asset right now.

No Zo and possibly no Fletcher? If the bright spot of our defense is the front four, we're screwed.

The team is going to sign FAs and they'd be dumb not to. Just choosing to have less talent is a foolish way to do business.

Hall, Fletcher and Moss have combined cap figures of about 21.5 mil, or over 1/6 of our cap (over 1/5 with the penalty). To suggest that we wouldn't, or shouldn't, spend that kind of cap space to acquire players is just silly.
